Here are my latest photos...

West Wall - Multipede, Asteroids Deluxe, Asteroids, Star Wars, Tempest, Horizontal MAME

East Wall - Marvel vs Street Fighter, Vertical MAME, Double Donkey Kong, Nintendo VS Unisystem (SMB & Excitebike), Space Invaders

South Wall: Cocktail MAMEd & Juked... I use it primarily for the Juke (old photo pre-carpet).

EDIT: There is now a beat-up Ms. Pac Man cocktail next to the Marvel vs Streetfighter now too...but that is a project that will eventually be either sold or end up in the house somewhere.

Thanks Dex!

Well,  not original (Amplifone) but close enough (Wells-Gardner 6100)... same with the Tempest.  I just got the Tempest up and running in the last couple days.

This would be nice to see others. I've been toying with the idea of constructing a "false" room inside my garage for the cabinets. My garage is finally getting cleared out this summer and it's going to be home to workshop and a glasshop and the dust, heat and other crap is probably going to require me to cordon off any cabinets I keep there.

Yah,  my garage is a 3-car garage (2 +1).  I was lucky that the prior owner had made a wall between the 2 car side and the 1 car side.  All I did was install a door.

How the hell do you guys afford to build game rooms like this?  Even more so... how do you convince the special other to let you?  My woman is tolerable with my 1 MAME cabinet, but is against me getting anything else.  I'm still trying to convince her to let me bring my Gottlieb Road Race pinball machine, that my grandfather gave me 30 years ago, into the house.

Every man should have at least one room in his house that the wife has ZERO say in.  As for affording it... well, it depends how important it is to you.  When I finally move into a bigger house I am making it my mission to build a game room/movie theater in the basement.  It won't happen over night but I don't drive fancy cars, I don't go on fancy vacations, etc. so I'll save enough over time to afford it (I hope).

I've always wondered since you started showing pics of your setup why someone would his entire garage into a gameroom. That seems to explain that mystery.

Here's the wideshot of mine on my half of the basement. It's an unfinished basement, but it's good enough for us at the moment.

The cab

The collectable figurines*

The pool cue stand I made myself as my first from-scratch woodworking project

You don't see these two things in the wideshot...

*Yes, they're action figures. If you think that's bad, you should see my "home office."

Edited because the cabinet pic actually sent you to a pic of my unmounted Cheers dartboard cabinet.

At least you have a cab in the house. Because my garage isn't ready for anything larger than a shoe, most my cabs are outside in the shed. Screw the lawnmower, keeping the cabs dry is way more important.

I have the same setup as FrizzleFried, a 2+1. Unfortunately the previous owner was an absolute moron and made it so narrow that I once I get the last cab in, I'll never get the first out again. Plus my GF has turned it into her glass shop and I have to store my PC equipment in there. ZERO ROOM. I had a third bedroom to myself as javeryh  describes, but that has since been lost. Current plans are to take over 1/2 of the remaining garage or to expand and improve the shed. I figure the costs would be the same for either, but obtaining permits for the shed is pushing me to take over the garage.  :dunno

If all else fails, I'll move the ---smurfing--- cabs into the pseudo-attic if I have to.

My woman is tolerable with my 1 MAME cabinet, but is against me getting anything else.

I had two upright jamma cabs in our dining room. The g/f was thrilled when I got rid of them to get a single cab.

Imagine how popular I was when she came home from work to find a dynamo showcase type cab in there (the room measures about 12' x 8')  :dizzy:

Actually my cab isn't quite in the house yet...  It lives out in the garage, but that will eventually be turned into an additional room.  We are working on getting offers from contractors now or thinking about doing it our selves.  So, eventually I will have a gameroom, or at least an entertainment area.

For me it's just a common courtesy...   If she was wanting to open a shop or bring a large new piece of furniture into the house I would expect the same.  She lives here to and we share the space.  We will discuss any big projects or larger then normal purchases.   I think with us its just a matter of finances and not that I'm not allowed to have what I want.  If we had more free cash laying around then she wouldn't question anything I did or wanted to do.

Not to mention... women do have more equal rights in the US. ;)

16 posts and only 2 gameroom pictorials? OK, I'm not one to talk, since technically I don't have a gameroom.

My cab is currently in the garage, where it will remain for a while. I do have a 3-car garage, but if I turn the single-door side into a game room I won't have a place for my workbench/tools (not to mention the gazillions of other stuff stored on shelves on that side of the garage).

I just can't wait until my boys are older. Then I can turn the playroom into a game room. Arcade machine(s), pinball(s), air hockey... Now if you will all excuse me I have to go find two or three more jobs to support my addiction.

The 1-car side of our garage has been deemed 'MY SPACE'.  If I can fit it in there,  I can put it in there.  The wife is adamant about "NO CABS IN THE HOUSE" aside from the fact I convinced her to let me bring my Ms. Pac cocktail cab in once I get it nice looking.

As for price...frankly,  if I add in all the profit I've made from sales of machines,  parts,  etc...trades...everything...and once you consider the fact I already owned the PC's in my 3 MAME cabinets...I am probably at around only $1,500 invested or so in the whole gameroom.  That includes the carpet (free), additional electrical wiring (under $200) and insulation ($350).   Hard to argue with spending only $1.5K or so on a hobby for over a years worth of time....and once you consider the fact that I could easily recoup that $1.5K selling just two of my cabs (SW & Tempest)...I think it's a decent investment for a hobby.

The whole basement in my house is 'MY SPACE'.  The first floor is 'HER SPACE'.  She never does anything with her space, though.  Literally.  The curtains from the previous owners are still there (we bought in 2001) and I pretty much had to clear out her study and paint it on my own because I was sick of looking at it and she wouldn't do it.  That extra room in 'HER SPACE' is still totally unused despite the fact that I bought and refinished matching floor to ceiling bookshelves for her, put an antique upright piano in there, repainted the room for her, and put her grandmother's 100 year old hutch in there.  She uses the room to stack crap she doesn't want to carry downstairs.

Every time we get into a discussion about what I'm doing with 'MY SPACE' I point out how woefully unused and wasted 'HER SPACE' is, how much effort *I* put into making her space what she wanted, and how she refuses to use it.

The discussion usually ends there.
