Robotron screen blanking out
« on: February 04, 2008, 10:07:50 pm »
Hi all,

OK, one last issue with the CAB and I'm done.

When I'm playing Robotron the screen periodically goes black for 1-2 seconds and then
returns to normal. The game continues to play during these 'black-outs' but I'm stump as to
a reason. I've been testing my control panel for a few days now and Robotron is the only game
that displays this behaviour. There does not seem to be any pattern to the black-out, but they
occur approximately every 30-60 seconds.

So far, I've tried running the game outside of my front-end (MameWah) and I've also tried running the
game under MAME 079 and MAME 101; the problem appears in both versions (both via the front-end
and run by command line). Could this be a screen  resolution issue? I don't remember this happening
before I connected all my controls but, since it's happening only with Robotron, I'm hesitant to blame the controls.

Anyway have an idea?

Thanks again!
Breaker.

It's not your controls if Robotron is the only game it happens with. It's almost certainly Robotron putting out something that your graphics card doesn't like. Especially as you get the same result with different Mame versions.

You're right, it could be a screen resolution issue.... Have you tried running it with mame set to a lower or higher resolution??

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.
And research indicates that Space Invaders are strongly attracted to people who have recently eaten meat pies.

Thanks Fozzy,

I'm running an AVGA on a D9200 at 304 X 240; can anyone tell me what resolution they're running Robotron for comparison?

Hey Fozzy,

You were right:

296X240 (no go)
321X240 (perfect).

Cheers,
Breaker.
