Has anyone ever used Tokn KB10 keyboard encoder?
« on: February 04, 2008, 06:53:45 pm »
I have this keyboard encoder and it works ok but there is no terminal for Escape, and I assume this thing doesn't support shifted functions. Anyone use this and figure out how to set up an Escape button?
Thanks

I didn't think I was going to get any replies, oh well.....
I solved my own problem, I added an escape button and reassigned it from "spacebar"to "escape". I was able to do this with the ultimarc IPac config utility believe it or not. :o

Prolly uses the same chip and maybe even the same firmware... Scary tho...

The TOKN products are not that well liked here because we were not, and are not now, treated well by the guy that designed them.
If you look at his ebay ads, he still claims this forum is just a big front to sell GroovyGameGear products, in spite of taking our advice and redesigning his products to perform better.

And just so that you know, you are not allowed to use software to reprogram the TOKN encoders.
Mattp was very insistent that there was absolutely nothing wrong with having to reprogram every key, every time, via the keyboard passthru, using the blinking of the onboard LED's as your only interface.

Ive been drinking a bit, but I think I speak for all of us when I squat and "KeyWiz" all over him!

Im so glad I live in an insulated Arcade environment: Ultimarc, GGG, MameMarquee, etc...

Edit for clarification: Im not peeing on Randy

Never heard of this but I'm sure I'm not missing anything!

Anyone got a picture?

More worryingly, if the ipac utility programs it has some git nicked Andy's coding and stuck it in a crap piece of hardware?

they wouldnt have even had to rip off andy's code to do that, only the method that the Ultimarc software communicates with the device. And it wouldnt be hard to find out how the IPAC and the programming software communicate with each other...

Not as much as I did when I learned you were a Briton! If the pic in the avatar is of you, it screams American like you cant believe! (I would have guessed you used to be the all american football* QB at the state university!)

*American football, not associated football (IE soccer**/world football)

** Brits coined the term soccer for what most of the world calls football, although apparently they dont use that word anymore.

Note: I do not intend it as an offense that I thought you were American until a week or two ago.

Maybe this? http://www.retroblast.com/Hardware/RetroBlast-RE-Review-Tokn-Media-KB16-Keyboard-Encoder.php

It's an interesting review and a semi-interesting design. But for $32?? Forget that.

*Savannah lion: Ditto. Especially with so many great alternatives out there.

*Protokatie: Yeah that is me, though I've lost my cheeky grin somewhat since I had a stroke last Summer! That picture was made as a joke for a home-made 'Monopoly' game. (It went on the money!)

Wouldn't have thought you could 'look' American. I'm always being told I looked like a boxer or rugby player, which is ironic cos I actually played basketball.

Go Knicks! (About 10 years ago)

That sucks. I saw you mention a disability on another thread, and a stroke is no laughing matter. ugh, I need to quit smoking, strokes are bad, and so are heart attacks and lung cancer...  :(
