I am extending my computer's power button wires to a Happ pushbutton so I can turn on/off the computer via the Happ pushbutton instead of pushing the main computer power button.

I wanted to have a quick disconnect for this new connection and I was going to use an old serial cable (cut in half) to do this.   I was wondering whether the thin wire of this serial cable can be used to connect to the existing computer's power button wires.  Is there any chance these thin wires can not hold the load of the power?   Just do not want anything to melt or do anything weird.

Assuming you're talking about a replacement of the button on the front of your computer, not the switch that's on the power supply unit, handles very little current. Plus there would only be current flow while the button is held down. That wire would be fine. I've done the same thing you're describing, although not with serial cable wire.

Ok, I actually just found another spare quick disconnect and decided to simply use 20 Awg wire instead to be sure.

Thanks for the information but I think I am set now.
