J-PAC on a NEOGEO cab - JAMMA problem?
« on: January 28, 2008, 05:20:22 pm »
I have a J-PAC coming that I plan to put in a NEOGEO cabinet.  I am reading that the NEOGEO multislot cabs don't use standard JAMMA and that plugging a JAMMA board into a NEOJAMMA (for lack of a better word) could cause problems.

My question is, can I plug the J-Pac directly into the NEOGEO cab JAMMA connector or do I need to use one of the NEO-to-JAMMA adapters that somehow standardize the NEOJAMMA connector?  I don't want to blow out the J-PAC once it arrives...

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the chart link, but I guess my specific question was does the J-PAC have logic or soft settings to make this change in the firmware?

TMK, the Jpac has no programming to accept a NeoGeo multi-slot and remap the inputs.

The Jpac is JAMMA. The NeoGeo multislot is not (it is a 56-pin adapter, but it is not JAMMA).

If you want to put a Jpac in your MVS multislot cabinet, then you need to adjust the wiring in your cabinet (or get a JAMMA -> NeoGeo multi adapter ... NOT a NeoGeo multi -> JAMMA adapter).
Working: Not Enough

Progress: None

Thanks for the information.  Do you have a recommendation for one of these type adapters that I'll put between the J-PAC and the NEOGEO wiring harness connector?

The differences are not significant. The J-PAC should work fine The exception is sound. JAMMA has several variations on the way that sound is configured, ie non-amplified, amplified, mono, stereo etc. Neo-Geo uses one of these variations. The best solution is to plug a set of powered PC speakers into the PC directly. This has the additional benefit of being able to use sub-woofers etc.

So if I plug the J-PAC into the NEOGEO cab connector I won't blow the J-PAC up or somehow harm it?

If that's true, it seems like the choice is:

1. Use no adapter with the J-PAC, then I need to use powered PC speakers.

2. I get the adapter and plug the J-PAC into that, I get sound through the cab's original speakers.

Right?

Thanks for the assistance!  Looking forward to getting the J-PAC.
