Scanning a glass bezel
« on: May 17, 2003, 04:13:32 am »
I want to scan in my Amazing Maze glass marquee/bezel now before any more paint flakes off of it. I can't imagine that there are more than a couple of Amazing Maze machines left, so I am going to scan in everything on mine so that the artwork can be preserved.

But, how do you scan a big piece of glass like that without breaking it (it isn't that thick), and does it being glass intefere with the scan in anyway?

Also plan on scanning the sideart, the cardboard monitor bezel, and the control panel. As far as I know I have the only complete Amazing Maze left, I was only able to track down one other, and it had been converted to Space Invaders and was thus missing most of the artwork.

Also. What can I do to keep more paint from flaking off that bezel?

You'd need  a very large scanner.  Some print shops might be able to help you on that.

As for the flaking paint, try masking off the unpainted glass, and a coat of clearcoat?

If you ever come to Germany, I could help you ;)
Yep, have a look at some printshops - e.g. we have a large scanner at work, which fits everything until 3/4" thickness and 40" width.

Still have to find someone who has an original Centipede-upright and can scan the bezel this way for me.

For the glances, most likely you'll have to do kind of touchupwork to remove some colored shadows that might appear, at least I had to do this with a scanned marquee.
