can't open cabinet ?
« on: January 25, 2008, 01:09:09 am »
I just realized that the police trainer cab has no way of access the inside bottom.. the back panel that comes off is small, and really only accesses the monitor and the jamma board. the "lower half" seems to have been nailed closed. I tried drilling the metal staples the put in (too deep sunk to pry out) but it still won't budge.

Any seen this before ? Any thoughts or help ? I'm getting a sinking feeling it might be glued as well.

Newb on this, But does this panel have any artwork on it? If it doesnt, then kill the panel (sledge hammer or pry-bar) and replace it later...

Yeah, i know, not being all that usefull on this one... :<

Does have the original artwork. I'm thinking of just cutting a big hole in the back, then making some sort of cover for it.. blah.

You have access to the jamma board and monitor? What else is there to access? Coin door on the front and... ??? I just gutted out a cab that had a similar construction. Besides a bunch of lost quarters down there, your typical operator wouldn't have any real need to get down in there.

well, power supply might need replacing some day.. but the real reason is to add some casters. Right now there are some weird metal feet that are falling apart.. and the wife has given me the look when I suggested moving it onto the hardwood.

Here is a wife friendly option:

Buy a piece of plywood and mount castors to it, then place the cab on the plywood. An added plus side is that you will have a dolly ready for other stuff was well :D

Edit: Also glue felt to the bottom of the cab, this is also a wife/"future resale value of your home" friendly thing as well :D

Why is it that it is nearly impossible for me to tell if people here are being sarcastic or sincere? Meh, anyways, at the same time you replied to me I edited my post to include the idea of glueing felt to the bottom of the cab (to prevent scratches). Regardless, don't let your perfectly good cab ruin your new marriage! (Or is thhat the other way around???)

not being sarcastic at all, I appreciate the idea! Felt is ok, but it's a damn heavy cab, casters would be so much nicer.

OK cools.

Here is a basic model for many people here:

Origonal cabinet = 20 points

Getting a woman/man to marry you = -5 points

Getting married person to deal with obsessive arcade hobby and still letting you sleep with them = 3000 points

Scuffing up expensive floor for your obsessive hobby = 2 weeks of you apologizing and trying to find someone cheap who will fix said floor. (failure to do so means no sex :D)

Hey Protokatie,

Haven't you said that before ??    ;)

Unless you have reason to believe otherwise, it's best to assume the replies are delivered with sincerity.

Though, I agree with you, it's sometimes hard to tell.

You don't have the nuances of face to face communication on a forum, such as people's facial expressions, tone of voice, etc ...

All we have are these little smiley faces ... but sometimes even they're used sarcastically, so it can get confusing.    :D

well, power supply might need replacing some day..

Weird place to put a PSU when you can't even reach it for maintanence. On the cab I described, it was mounted about half way up, just underneath where the Jamma board would've been placed.

At least you can get your cabs into the garage. I'm still working on that. My cabs live out in the garden shed.

How about a picture of the cabinet.  Front and back.

Ah, I already cut out a panel in the back..bought myself a new B+D jigsaw. Worked like a charm. I plan on buying a hinge, etc and making it a door, like it should have been in the first place.

I think we'd still like to see a picture.  All commercial cabinets have some way of accessing the electronics.  It may be a pain (Dynamo Z back comes to mind, or even a Pit Fighter cab) but there's a way to maintain it.
