need some ideas on how to mount these speakers
« on: January 24, 2008, 05:06:05 pm »
i have these exact speakers laying around and id like to use them on my cab (just 2 and the sub woofer)

the problem is, the shape of these things

i routed out a jig for the speaker which they fit into pretty well, but its def not a snug fit because of its shape.

also concerning the volume knob, does anyone ever let the knob show through their speaker panel? it seems like everyone hides it.

You can mount them above a speaker grill using L-brackets to hold the speakers in place. Depending on the grills you use, you won't be able to see the speaker being offset from the mounting hole.
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical.

yeah i was thinking about hiding them behind a speaker grill, but i kinda like the look of them and wanted them to show through
which may not be possible

My idea wasn't the most elegant, but if you're willing to let an amateur throw his two cents in --

I tried all sorts things to get the speakers to mount in my mini cabs.  Finally, I wound up cutting holes for the speakers that were a little smaller than the speakers themselves and used 5 minute epoxy.  The thing is, you won't get those bad boys out afterwards if you ever wanted to.  (Told you it wasn't elegant)

I did the same thing that Dizzle did except I used  wire ties to snug them down and then you can remove them easily if needed.

iam sorry, when i say "mount" i diddnt mean how to hold them in place

i meant more of the wood working aspect geared towards these speaker shapes.

maybe iam in the wrong forum with this question

Mount them behind a speaker grill and be done with it. You may want to change out your speakers later. If you insist on mounting them so they are visible and you want to do a good job - ask yourself if it's worth all the extra time and effort.

Personally, I don't think they are that great looking that they deserve some sort of special mounting method.

As an option, if you want to do something snazzy - put some LED's or neon behind the speaker grill to light it up.

Arcade speaker grills? Just get some other grills. I got some grills from Divemaster for around $5 each, I've also used fan covers from Newegg. Here is a pic of a 2 player bartop I built:

The Ones I used: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811998119

I used these on my multi-williams bartop:

Save your money for the good stuff!

Check out this thread for what is, in my opinion, one of the more creative ideas for mounting speakers.
