Best pre built mame ready cabs?
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:25:52 am »
I have a friend who lives out of state that really wants to get a mame setup, he can barely send email though LOL.

Hes trying to order  this

http://dreamarcades.com/cabiocade.shtml

In my opinion this is the cheesiest looking cab ever, tiny ass monitor and an annoying angle on it to boot.

Where can I send him for a complete solution, I can make the computer for him I just need him to get an empty cab with a monitor and plug and play ready CP.

I would tell him to buy a kit through mameroom but I don't know if he wants to get into installing a monitor and stuff...

No ideas myself.. but.. Is that monitor Flush with the CP? Holy cow! How is ANYONE supposed to play that thing for more than 10 minutes without having neck pains?

Shame you're not in the UK - that's exactly what we do, but custom-built and a lot cheaper than 1800 bucks!

Have him check Sears if there is one local... The two Sears stores near me carried full sized multi-game cabs during Christmas, and now the unsold ones are on closeout (along with the pool tables, air hockey tables, foosball and dart boards). They had some Arcade Legends type thing for 900 bucks when I was there last week. Said original price was $1800.

That is one ugly cab. That machine would not set in my gameroom(my opinion).  I would contact mameroom or jack arcadesrfun.com(he builds some very nice machines).
I carry both ultimarc & happ items, all brand new & I ship from the united states. My online store is ARCADEEMULATOR.NET, pm if I can help in anyway.

Blasphemy! That looks like the original Galaga Cabaret shape. That's a classic ... sort of.

I wouldn't like the horizontal angle of the monitor though

It's a shame you have to resort to going after other vendors already.  There is a lot of difference from the Dream Arcade Cabinets and yours, none of which you mentioned.  It's one thing to keep bumping and advertising yourself, but vendors commenting about vendors always seems a bit pathetic.

Dream Arcades is a pretty good vendor from what I can tell.  I've never bought anything from them, but they are one of the few that offer legal licensed ROMs, it's always cheaper if you don't have to do things legally.  Now this being BYOAC, it's not exactly the target market, but more then a few people here have bought cabs from them.   I don't recall anyone having any problems.

Also, has no one here seen a cabaret cabinet here before.  This model seems to be a copy of the Pac-Man Cabaret.  Not my cup of tea either, but some people like them.  I like there cocktails a bit better.

Edit: looks like patrickl got in before me.  At least someone recognizes what a classic cab looks like.

The monitor isn't as flat as it looks in some of the photos. Though it does lean pretty far back, which allows tall people to play it with out bending down.

It works fine as long as you are not looking to use a light gun.

Also, the monitor is a standard 19-inch (almost all of the old classic games had 19 inch monitors), which is actually a little bigger than a PC's 19 inch monitor.

Regards,
Mike

PS. 2600 and Pactrickl thanks for the support!

mrserv0n, what state does he live in?  Depending on his location and patience, he can attend an auction and buy a CAB, throw in a JPAC & Arcade VGA, replace some buttons/joysticks, and presto... new cabinet.

As long as they mow the lawn, I don't really mind.  ;)

Ugh, I'm getting old and it's noticeable.

doesnt someone here in the forum build that arcade in a box. its like a control panel with a computer in it. maybe he would be better off with one of those to start. take up much less room at least.

he just needs to start small. help him with a little 1 player controller. just  a joystickl and 2 buttons built into a shoe box.
go from there. in the meantime look at arcade in a box

Hey now! Even I started with a joystick and 7 buttons in a 4x 6-pack beer box! :P Give the guy some credit!

Anyways; I was thinking (DUCK AND COVER!)

My mother's BF is a lobster fisherman and fixes his boat up with fibre-glass all the time

Also, My Step-dad works for Hinckley Boat as a finishing carpenter and had build full boats out of fibre-glass

If I got them to work with me together, would a fibre-glass and finished wood cab (without all the electronics/etc) be worth 400 dollars? If fibreglass were seen as "fit" maybe there could be a bussiness in it...

Meh. Just hammering nails, because the only tool I know how to use is a hammer...

I was going to start a thread on this to find out more info, but I may aswell ask in here...

First of all, I love the look of the DA Cocktails.

Are you saying that the 1050+ games are licensed? What are they running under?

Where are you getting this +1050 number from?

I think the number is more like 80, but that was just a quick look at their website.  It seems to explain it there.  If not, PM DreamArcades or send them an email as I assume they would explain it.
