Customize HotRod SE with Mag-Stik Plus?
« on: January 22, 2008, 08:16:10 pm »
Hello,

I have just recently got my Hotrod SE and I'm very happy
with it.

However I have allready been coming up with ideas to make it more
perfect.

Colored buttons come to mind ....
but most importantly:

If will fit a Ultimarc Mag-Stik Plus
http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html
so I can use  the joystick to switch between 8 - way VS 4 - way.

My question here obviously has anyone here made this
transformation with the HotRod.

Is it even possible will I have to drill new holes, etc
or will it fit just like the one allready in the HotRod?

Next question is how would the wiring work?
would it be as simple as unpluggin the original and plugging
in the Mag-Stik Plus?

Any help or input here would be nice....
I realize these sticks are temporarily sold
out so I have some time to think about it.

Thanks,

The joysticks used in the HotRod do not have the same mounting as the Mag Stik Plus.   I have attached a template that shows the difference between the Mag Stik and a Wico joystick which is similar to the Happs which are used in the Hot Rod.

There is an article on Retroblast about making an adapter plate if you do not want drill new holes.  I think one of the vendors used to sell an adapter plate as well.

Another bit of work would be routing the underneath part of the CP where the joysticks are mounted.  They are routed out to fit the happs and with a mounting plate you might have to take out some more wood to get the magstik to fit.

Thanks To both of you...

I think mounting plates would definitely be the
way I would go.

I feel confident I can overcome getting the Mag Stik Plus
to fit with the idea you have given me on mounting plates!

Anyone know how the wiring would work?

Sorry if that's a dumb question I'm still very new to
everything.

If this doesn't prove to be some massive rewire job
I'll order 2 of them ( When they have them back in stock)

 Thanks,

Wiring on the Magstik is the same as on the happs.   Only difference maybe the size of the fasteners.  This can be taken care of with a squeeze with pliers.
