Software for Music Video Jukebox
« on: January 21, 2008, 05:50:55 pm »
Looking for software as per title, want to steer well clear of any album art display etc. Just need something which plays avi mpeg etc and will display the video full screen. Also, I am looking to divide my videos into 2 different genres and be able to play songs from the selected genre randomly.

Any ideas guys?

You can try mine.  I allow album art, but you do not need it ..... a generic "NotAvailable" album cover will be displayed if you do not have one.  Each song can be placed into a genre and a certain genre can be played randomly.  The video can be played fullscreen of course on a primary monitor or on a secondary monitor ... up to you.

Not sure why you do not want album covers, but again up to you.  I "think" some software out there might fetch the album covers for you (not mine though).

You might have a hard time finding one which supports videos but does not have some sort of album art attached (but I could be wrong).   Possibly DWJukebox might play videos (not sure) .... but it is set up like a oldies jukebox with title strips only I think.

I would say that on this forum the most popular free software packages would be (in no particular order)  DWJukebox, MultiJuke, Freebox, UncleT's Jukebox and SK Jukebox.  Just kleep in mind that SKJukebox is no longer supported.

I would just say try a few and see what is out there.

Just downloading your player mate, thanks for the link. When you say 'your' player, I take it this is something you have knocked up yourself??? :notworthy:

As for the album art stuff, I don't have anything against it, I just mean I would rather have the vid playing full screen.

1 last thing, how easy is it to configure the controls to a CP?

Steve

Yes, "UncleT's Jukebox" was written by myself and distributed for free (for non-commercial use only)

My software requires that you first install Windows Media Player v9.0 or greater since this is the media engine behind the software.  Also, your resolution must be 1024x768 or greater.

It has keyboard mapping functions for a lot of stuff.  Just click the pull-out menu button (top-left) and go into the options/keyboard mappings to check it out.  The main settings to navigate through the screens are going to be the functions (F1, F2, etc..).  I would not use the arrow keys to navigate .... there are F3 and F4 to use instead.  Also, you might find you prefer to simply use a mouse instead.   I never used it on a control panel before but you should be able to do all the basic stuff you need with a few key mappings.  I interface with the software using my touchscreen monitor.

For control based software you might want to see the bit old Arcade Music Box (joystick), that support videos. Like SK-Jukebox it discounted by me. Arcade Music Box was created with a older language, that only existed to Windows and was not ported to Linux at all.

UncleT' Jukebox and Freebox works best with mouse/trackball/touchscreen, since they designed that way. If you have a trackball on your CP, these software might been the best way.

Arcade Music Box, Sk-Jukebox (numpad), MultiJuke (numpad or joystick) works best with bottons, because they designed on that way. MultiJuke does not support videos yet, but the older Arcade Music Box does.

On the otherway you could use a FE something like GameEX and see its Jukebox section works that way...

Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

If you are going to use this software on a control panel then you can cycle through the controls using F3(backwards) and F4(forwards), however, in order to see what control is the "current" control you will need to turn on the "Focus Rectangle" option located on the Miscellaneous(Page 3) option page.  If you do not do this, thenyou will not see anything.

I have this as an option since most people use my software via mouse or touchscreen and want this feature turned off.

Anyway, turn it ON and to see what it does.   Just thought I should mention that here otherwise you are going to think nothing works   ;D
