I can't seem to add a simple PNG file image to my Mala layout.  The picture shows up in the preview window but doesn't load when I start Mala.  I'm using the Mala tree and all the files are placed in the Mala Tree Directory.  Please help me by telling me what I'm doing wrong.  Thanks.

LOL. I thought I started a picture thread but I couldn't find it.  Regarding the P64, I did put in the wrong file so now it loads, however: I'm having some issues exiting out of P64 to Mala.  I'm getting a video error message.  I'll be posting that problem soon.

Now regarding the pictures,  I did read the Mala Wiki and now it seems to be working, although I really don't know what I did.  I'm not familiar with Photoshop but I'm looking to add a photo on my menus that shows instructions for people to follow

Example: I want my menu to show a pic of a joystick and arrows going up/down to show that if you push on the joy, the titles will jump one letter up/down.  Also  I want a pic of my six button layout and instructions for what each button does in the FE.  This is where I'm stuck.

I'm definitely no expert on this kinda thing but I did something similar with my layout, I created a user-defined window for a button layout that would swap with each selected game.  I then went into one of the folders associated with that defined window and copied the ROM name onto the corresponding button layout.  If you want to commit to it, do this with your control panel folder (using the ROM names but create the layouts you want).

In Photoshop, I just made a generic layout and stacked the used buttons on top of the unused one and made lines of text over the buttons with 'pointers'.  I just turned on the different button layers for each game, then exported per each game, to keep it fast and uniform.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for though.

(ps... Urbecrisch, your pic is hilarious, I think you and I sported the same bowl haircut at the same age... thee ol', mom hacking the hell out my hair in the kitchen to save $10.)

Oh my god, tell me about it. Using kitchen scissors and hair dry so it can itch ya all over the rest of the day.

Back on here, I'm having some problems with simple stuff.

1. In the layout editor, I created media boxes and dragged them where I want them. I have the paths set correctly, but nothing show besides the game list.

2. I'm trying to import game lists from MameUI. I did it in the editor, but it seems you then have to do it from the Mala options, and I'm not getting it.

You hit the nail right on the head!  Actually the scary thing is my Mom was a beautician! LOL!  At least the Pac-Man shirt was styling.  I was forced into this haircut until 5th grade!  I have the PICS to prove it.  Later on when I was in high school, I told my Mom I wanted her to shave my head, like a Flat-top (what can I say, it was popular in '91).  Well, my Mom was using a razor to square off my dew when all of a sudden I hear her say, "whoops!"  I ran to the mirror only to see that she cut my hair in one place right down to the scalp!  Needless to say I was pissed-off and somewhat embarrassed until my hair grew back.  I love my Mom to death but ever since that incident I have gone to a barber!

Some beauticians are better than others - but for crew and military cuts you have to go to the right people.

Ummon... I had the exact same issue for a while (btw, Loadman is the one to ask about Mala, he really knows his stuff)... but in the meantime, when I tried to do control panels and marquees by default, it didn't want to work, then I did the user-defined ones and it worked perfectly.  Have you tried that...?

LOL, yeah, I think it was one of those rights of passages that we all had to go through.  Then I got it taken care of on my own and went with the "Zack Morris" up and over, because I thought I was pretty damn cool in my day, with my Z Cavaricci's, LOL... turns out, not so much, haha.

No. Mala has tripped my difficulty meter. I try it out once or twice a year. But this is a lot farther than I got the last fives times.

Seems a little clunky. I'll work on it.
