old wico joystick problems

i have recived a wico joystick with a ball top it has some kind of rubber thing nstead of a sping to pull it to the center  and it uses leafs  i cannot figure out how to pull the rubber thing off the stick so that i can mount it to a controll pannel any one know what im talking about? if you have had this problem please respond

This is not uncommon with old Wico's.  The hub in the centering grommet corrodes to the shaft, so spray it down with some penatrating oil and let it soak for an hour or two.  A word of warning, this is very likely to eat up the rubber grommet, but if it is stuck to the shaft it probably isn't much good anyway.  If you want to try to save the grommet, try a silicone spray instead of penatrating oil, but it might not work as well.

yeah it had lots of rust ill try some wd-40 the rubber thing looks like its in good condition  i hope i dont ruin it
