To anyone with a J-PAC, I could use your wisdom, please.
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:40:34 pm »
First, a big THANK YOU! to everyone's help in my quest to fix/replace my broken Neotec monitor. I went with a Betson Imperial (which I like a lot).

My Gauntlet Legends cab is a 'JAMMA+' cab. I traced the wires and the first two players are definitely wired to the JAMMA adapter (well, at least the buttons. The 49-way joysticks are a whole new set of roadblocks).

The JAMMA adapter is connected to my J-PAC, and I can get the Players 1 and 2 Start buttons to be recognized by the PC (notepad shows them as a '1' or '2' key press respectively). However, that's all I can get out of my buttons. None of the other switches/buttons for players 1 or 2 will show up.

Also, curiously, sometimes I've noticed that the key presses show up in notepad as '!' and '@' instead of '1' or '2.' I've yet to pin down why they are shifted like that.

Just to see if the other switches on the buttons work, I swapped the 1 Player start with button three of the first player, and that button does send a signal when pressed and it shows as 1 Player start (obviously).

Does anyone know what's up? Any idea why the other keys wouldn't be recognized? There are no error flashes on the self-test LED.

Thank you in advance!

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I fixed one small part of my original problem, but now I've got more. Sorry to do this, but I'm bumping this thread.
I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

humm i got a j-pac off of ebay and it seems fine... i think ! i connected it with a gold plated lead from maplins and use the program from ultramac (spelling) and it lights up on there fine.. also if you get that program you can reset it to factory defaults as some of the buttons might be assigned to things like 'alt' that obviously wouldn't type in notepad  ;D

Make sure the button switches are wired correctly.   Esp for P1 buttons on the 'kick' harness.

I had problems with my (2nd hand) J-pac the reminds me of this. Was a bad chip (the big one) on the J-Pac. Caused by the previous owner most likely.
Andy at Ultimarc generously offered me to send a replacement at VERY little cost, EVEN though I didn't buy this directly from him.

If all arcade part vendors could maintain a standard like this, it would be a sweet thing.
Andy, with Randy and Richard are in the major league of arcade part suppliers. I give them a big round of  :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

Drop Andy at Ultimarc a mail. I'm not 100% sure that this is your problem but it _might_ be it.

Yeah, I tried that. No go. The test mode for that same program would at least pick up the input.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't be. I didn't do the wiring myself, as this was the original wire harness. I'll triple check, but why would the start buttons show up and not the rest then?

I'm hoping it's not the jpac, but I'll wait before bothering Andy. I want to exhaust every resource I can before asking him for help, as I'm sure he's a busy man. I have to agree that he runs a first-class operation, and I've been very impressed with the ArcadeVGA card.
I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
