Some advice needed on which parts to buy

Hi all

Just need a bit of advice before I place my order for my first cabinet.  Even after reading the Project Arcade book, I'm still a little bit confused by what I should get, so I need some recommendations.  I need the following parts:

2 Joysticks
Preferably the ones you can switch between 4-way and 8-way.  The Mag-Stick's from Ultimarc seems like good ones?  I don't want something where you can see a switch or have to open it to switch it between the different modes. 
 
Push Buttons
What type of buttons are the most arcade realistic? 

Illuminated Buttons
Same size as the other buttons, just illuminated, want to use it for Player 1, Player 2 & Escape buttons.  Also need the logo inserts for these and led's.  Do you normally have to order the led's seperate or does it come with the buttons?

Coin Door
Looking for a coin door with illuminated push buttons, with led's.  Do you also need the coin mechanism if you want to use coins with the cabinet, or is there a way to do it without it?

Is there something I'm missing?  I'm leaving the overlays, bezel, marquee etc. (the decorative stuff) for the next order.  I'm also looking for a dealer where I can order all of these at one place.  I thought I could get it all from Ultimarc, but they don't have the coin doors I'm looking for.  Oh, and they will have to ship to South Africa.

iam new to the hobby just like you are so i cant provide you with in depth responses but i'll help where i can


for joysticks id go with the u360's.. the mapping for 2way,4way,8way, is all done via software.

as for the push buttons are you talking about the feel of the button? or the look?
Leaf springs have a more authentic feel for the old time gamers.
leafe springs are a little harder to find (check ebay) and from what i remember reading they need to be maintained.

where micro switches have more of the "fighter" feel (mortal kombat)

theres also another switch called the "microleaf" from groovy game gear. you may want to check into that as well.

Are u going to have a trackball/spinner? (trackball is highly recommended)


Do you have an encoder picked out? Is the encoder your using able to handle the trackball/spinner?
if not you'll need a separate encoder for the tb/spinner.

Your magstick plus are ver good 4/8 stick you can switch from above w/o having to reach into your cp & no switch shows

That thread explains it perfectly.  I don't want that clicking sound.  Pity the leaf switches are so hard to find.  I'll check out the micro-leaf buttons.
