TurboTwist 2
« on: January 12, 2008, 10:23:43 pm »
At first when I was was designing my control panel, I thought "Do I really NEED a spinner?" Well anyway I''ve narrowed my choice down to the TT2. I just have some questions about it:

1) If I buy the 5" Mini-Racer™ Steering Wheel, how easy is it to swap the normal knob out with the wheel?

2) What does the Energy Storage Cylinder actually do?

3) Should I go with PS/2 or USB? I've heard PS/2 is better.

Thanks in advance,

Xb0x3r ;D

TT2 spinner = Smart choice.  Not only is the price cheaper, but it is the easiest to install, has a supersmall footprint and has the highest resolution of all those out there.  And it's a GREAT product.

The wheel is very easy to swap out.  You can remove the knob of the TT2 with a simple screw on the side of the spinner knob.  (see my comments below on this) Then, the wheel simply pushes on (no need to tighten it... it does not come with a screw).  It holds nice and secure, so don't worry.

As far as the energy cylinder goes, you don't need it if you buy the token spinner.  The token spinner is heavy enough that it acts like the energy cylinder.  Furthermore, it fastens to the spinner using a special type of screw set that WILL NOT damage the spinner base with repeated removal.  This is very important if you are using a mini wheel.

Read more here as Randy mentions this (Randy T is the owner of GGG the manufacturer of the TT2):

Hope this helped!

I love my 3 TurboTwist 2's.... but I've found that the wheel just sits on my shelf.  I've used it a total of maybe 2 or 3 times.  It's just too much of a pain in the ass to remove the knob to swap the wheel.  I keep mentioning that SOMEONE should engineer a knob that will just push on (eliminating the set-screw),  but no one's done it yet.

IMHO get the TT2 but the wheel isn't worth it (unless you plan on using it primarily for driving games then you can just leave the wheel on all the time).

You have 3 of them ??  All on the same panel ??

I believe DeLuSioNal29 has mentioned before, that you DON'T NEED to fasten down the spinner knob with the set screw, ie, you can leave it on loose ??  This makes for easy switching between the spinner knob and the steering wheel.

DeLuSioNal29 ... when doing this, do you ever find the unfastened spinner knob inadvertently "lifts off in your hand" during frantic gameplay, due to its light weight ??

Nope,  I have one on my vertical cab,  one on my horizontal cab,  and have on on my cocktail cab so I could play Tempest on the VGA monitor.  Now that I have a Tempest it will be coming off the cocktail and going on the horizontal cab for 2 way Offroad Racing action, etc.

Perhaps the token knobs would work well this way,  but the knobs I have (stock, big blue, and a rubber padded one) are all so light I am sure they would slip when using the weights as I do on 2 of my spinners.  Perhaps a weighless one would work ok?  I'll have to check.

I only mentioned that you do not need to fasten the mini-wheel, since it does not come with a screw and fits on snugly.  You still do, however, need to tighten the screw on the normal knob!  But keep in mind that with the token top, the special screw set it has will not damage the spinner in any way with repeated removal.

Hope this clears it up.
