Project arcade book? I am looking for plans pls
« on: January 11, 2008, 10:17:11 am »
Hello
I am getting back into the game... the first 3 cabs I made I pieced together from reading websites of others who made em.. now I am looking for plans... Is there good plans online? can anyone post some of their favorite links to plans? I am after compact standups, cocktails and bartops. I have done some searches and will continue, however thought someone here may have quick links.

Also, I was considering buying project arcade book. Although I have made several cabs will this help? What I need help with is converting an arcade monitor etc to work on pc does it have that info????  I know it has step by step plans but what kind of cabinets>?

Everyone should buy Project Arcade.  Even if they don't like video games.  Just buy the book.  Buy a bunch of them and insulate your attic.  Buy them.

I built an entire cab w/o the Project Arcade book, but I decided to buy the book for my next cab.  I know most of what's in it, but I consider it a good buy for $20, since it's nice to have it all in one spot.  I particulalry liked the chapters on stuff that alot of people here take for granted - like Encoders, and how to power up/down a cab with a key and bitstrip.

LOL. I'm guessing this is Saint's new "text speak" autocensor in action. Did you type "T H X" (without the spaces)? "Thanks" will work better.

Saint, you need one for "pls" (please).

Wow, I guess so. Anything for WTF?

Anyways, whatever prompted him to take that step?

I got Saint's book for Christmas and have really enjoyed it.  I know that much of the material is available on the web but I still think I learned more specifics (particularly about the different types of buttons and controllers) from the book.  He also lays out the process of designing and building your cabinet it a nice chronological order.  I highly recommend the book.   It does come with a CD of plans but I have not had a chance to review them yet.

Demon-Seed:  I tried the CD that comes with the book tonight.  It is a little light on plans (I only found 2) but has some real nice templates for button layouts that I intend to use.

I read the chapter on monitors this weekend.  It is fantastic and does cover using a arcade monitor with a PC in detail.
