All the Matrix clones have me tired of the whole concept. It's too bad they didn't release that movie sooner because the clones have already ruined it for me.   :-X

has anyone read the article in WIRED magazine with Gaeta? the guy that invented the whole 360 camera trick, and has now invented a new "virtual cinematography" for the new movies?

He mentions that his new computer technology has, in its irony, created a MATRIX of sorts, and it scares him.

He in fact wrote a letter to the President explaining how dangerous this new technology is...and so on. very interesting stuff!

Hmmm....

I caught the 10pm show at a Loews Cineplex last night (14th) - all I can say is HOLY S%$@!!  The fight scenes had to have been the best. fights. ever. anywhere.  If only because they are realistic(!) in the sense that if 5 guys are attacking Neo, they all rush him at once and don't go one at a time (like every other fight movie -like Enter the Dragon or something).  Some of the CG really looked CG, though.  Awesome movie.
I won't post any spoilers, but it was funny hearing people on the way out - everyone was saying stuff like, "Ok wait, you mean...blah blah blah...is really...blah blah..but I thought...?" and "Well, what about...blahblahblah...and if that's true then...??"  Everyone was really confused with one obvious part of it (you'll see) - they should have called it "matrix revelations".   ;D

oh, and about the camera trick - does anyone remember seeing that same effect, albeit not full 360 and pretty primitive in an Alan Jackson video like 5 or 6 years ago?

The first place I saw the trick (way before matrix) was in a Coolio video.  I can't remember the name of the tune, but it'd be pretty easy to track down as it's set to Pachabel's Canon in D.  It's a pretty good song and the video was really cool -- especially for its time.

Another case of the trailer wrecking the movie.
Virtually every cool scene was in the trailor.
The CG was overboard.

i saw it on wdnesday night at 10:00 ( opening show here in Charlottesville) and was stunned. How could the biggest sequel of the year put every damn part of the movie in the trailer. personally, i felt that the cg's were overused and too obvious. the animatrix has more interesting features :-\

Bottom Line: If it weren't for the fighting scenes and special effects that would have been lame @$$ movie...

The first part was so much better. So was the new X-Men movie.

I'll admit that the special effects and fight scenes are ground-breaking, but I seriously thought the movie kinda sucked. I still have no doubts, though, that the finale will be totally awesome. (It has to be.)

Still, I'm more looking forward to the Lord of the Rings finale.

You said exactly what I have told everyone since I saw it Saturday.  What the hell was with the sex and party scene?!?!? That just came out of nowhere! And it had NOTHING to do with anything!  Very dissapointed. I really hope the 3rd is MUCH MUCH better.

Well, I'm all for sex scenes in movies.  I think this country needs it right now with all the puritanical goodness the Bush/Ashcroft crew are shoving down everyone's throats.  That was just about the least sexy sex scene I've ever seen, though.

HEhe, yeah, I figure it's hard to expand on the whole matrix idea after the first movie.  I'm going to wait for the imax to come out so the effects are mind blowing.

I thought it was a cool revelation of the last 5 Neo's and the guy basically revealing the Matrix is much much older than previously thought.
the dancing scene just kept going and going - it was a bit repetitive.  :P
But still a cool movie.

It was alright, but you would have thought they could have done it a little better.

After all, the entire trilogy was written and planned out from the beginning.

Personally, I think it was the music. It had no real catchy base-lines (or catchy scenes) like the original had in the lobby shootout.

Ahh well, it is only like an in-between movie, and revolutions is coming out in December so I guess it's not all bad.

I just saw it and it was a decent graphical accomplishment, but a terrible film.  The script was so bad I was actually embarrased for the writers.  Usually that doesn't bother me in action movies, but the first movie was so well written and directed that I had high hopes.  The Matrix was so great because it mixed ground-breaking visuals right alongside an interesting story and engaging characters, just like Terminator 2 did.  "Reloaded" delivers on the effects and big-budget Hollywood flash, but it really seems like the directors were rushing from effect to effect without bothering to tell the story.  I REALLY hated the bad guys (can you get any cheesier than a pair of evil abino twins with dreadlocks?) and what happened to Morpheus?  He was so cool in the first one...

Altogether, I was extremely disappointed.  But I have to admit that the ripple effect when the two trucks hit head-on really blew me away.

It wasn't great but I liked it..  The special effect were very good.  People go to the movies for different reasons.  I go for the entertainment value.  If you're looking for the meaning of life or some other crap, you'll be disappointed.

I second that (desire to talk about the film itself not whether it stunk or rocked)

this guy has some interesting ideas (spoilers abound duh)

Corporate Mofo's take on it (some serious mumbo jumbo going on there...)

More SPOILAGE **** of course if you haven't seen the film by now...

Here's a snippet of some guys thoughts i snagged from a comment on slashdot.org  -- it's interesting (i think)

There's a lot of confusion regarding wether zion has been destroyed yet  --
I left with the impression that there was still like 24 hours left before
crap hit the fan (or the sentinels reached zion), but i'll pay better
attention at my second viewing (whenever that is)...

Here's some reasonably intersting ramblings of some geek on slashdot...

Okay, so what the hell was up with the Architect (an obvious God symbol)?
Zion has been destroyed and rebuilt six times? Neo is stopping Sentinels in
the real world? Are we dealing with a matrix-in-a-matrix scenario? Has Neo
entered a separate matrix where he has saved Trinity and Zion is destroyed?
Remember, nobody has ever chosen the other door.

A hundred questions hit your mind in the last 30 minutes of the movie. They
purposely intended to mess with everything you took from the first movie,
which I admit was refreshing for a sequel (it is in the style of Empire
Strikes Back, but on an extreme level). Unlike Harry, I had no problem with
Zion apparently being destroyed without our being shown, because it was
supposed to shock you in that way (besides, in the preview for Revolutions,
you see swirls of Sentinels, so they

Was Zion destroyed or not? I got the impression that it was. Or maybe NEO and the crew was made to hink that it was.  ??? Would be nice to see an epic battle like starwars style. man vs machines.

In addition i cant believe so many dudes are complaining about a sex/orgy scene.

heh that's funny.  What nippleage wasn't enough to justify seeing keanu arse crack (or the "R" rating)  (it's kinda like wanting to see holly berry in the Monster's Ball sex scene, but trying NOT to see Billy bob Thorton... in the same scene)

I *need* to see the film again to pick up on all these subtle and not so subtle nuances... but my *impression* (assuming they really are in the "real" world and not second layer of matrix) is that the counter attack failed, but there was still 24 hours left till the sentinels dug down further to reach Zion. *shrug*

I forgot to stick around for after the credits where the MAtrix Reveloutions trailer is played... but my impression is that it hasn't fallen yet.. and there is an epic battle down in Zion to happen (depending on which revision of Zion the matrix or reality it's in, if any... *zonk*)

Gamespy gave Enter the Matrix a 58! That's the xbox version.  All the other ones, PS2, GCN, PC (zuh?!) got around a 53-55.  Must be pretty crappy - glad I didn't buy it.
What's funny is that there are a bunch of interviews and sneak peeks of it from the past few months - everyone was all excited and the producers said it was gonna change gaming and be awesome .....  and it sucks.  go figure.

Yeah, I haven't played it, but I get the impression from the reviews that there is nothing innovative about it.  Nothing.

It's just your typical half-assed movie licensed videogame.

What's really a crime is that it's already sold over a million copies.  Actually that was as of a few days ago...it's probably edging up towards two million now.

I played the game at BestBuy and it's just a remake of all the other "run around and shoot stuff" games.  You just have the ability to now "Focus" (slows everything around you down and you move like those cool fight scences) and you have new Martial Art type moves.

The move IMHO was really good.  I watched the first one about 2 hours before going to see #2 and really made a difference (everthing fresh in your mind).

I beleave at the end, they were speaking about the other ships which were going to try and ambuse the machines, and that they were all completely destroied and they were continuing to Zion.  (just my 2 pennies) 8)

the matrix sucks, effects are crappy, not mucb better than a really good gif made in photoship if you know what you are doing, lol... I saw the first one cuz this girl was watching it, didn't see much of the movie tho...never bothered to see part 2...it seems like people see it because of the hype just so they don't feel left out in conversation, gives them something to talk about until the next big thing. lol... some people might like it, just not my cup of tea...

oh and the new xmen movies ruined the classic feel of it all, I was one of the biggest marvel/comic card collectors in all of viriginia, i've got more sets than the local comic store had when they were popular, then those damn customizable card games ruined it all...damn them to hell! But anyway...i feel as tho the new xmen movies ruined how xmen was, they don't even look like they should, totally trashed such a great classic set of characters...

oh and the new xmen movies ruined the classic feel of it all

i think you are in the minority there, as most x-men fans were very pleased with how the film turned out...

but sure, you've got your own opinions...

i saw Matrix Reloaded a few nights ago (going to see it again tomorrow night) and i was very impressed...
the massive twist near the end of the film leaves a number of possibilities for the final film (matrix within a matrix (ie, Smith coming through into the 'real' world), Neo is a program, parallel universes etc etc)

ok, so some of the effects were really noticable as CGI (all the mo-capped stuff was fine, but you could tell with the hand animated stuff - the agent jumping onto, and smashing, the car was the most noticable for me)

the film rocked, but the soundtrack just didn't do it for me... (after seeing the first film, i left the cinema humming the bass-line to the Propellerheads song they used (lobby shootout scene)) - the party scene did go on for a tad too much, but i didn't dislike it (it was like a tribal, pre-battle dance)

i think people should save their 'it sucked' attitudes until the final film is released... ;D
(mind you, speaking of trilogies, i didn't like StarWars TESB...it was all over the place)

 :P

When the Germans bombed the British, the British ducked.
When the British bombed the Germans, the Germans ducked.
When the Americans started bombing, everyone ducked!

starwars og trillogy was good, the prequals(sp?) (i hate prequals to begin with, dumbest things in the world) are geared more to little kids and all that...

the majority of x-men fans? the majority of x-men fans are 12 year olds who play that overpower game or heroclix or whatever its called, not the same people who collected the cards and comics and watched the cartoon on fox kids when we were little...things change, therein lies my problem...lol
