I'd like to have music playing in the background as I play, but when I have Winamp running, then start a game, whatever's playing in Winamp significantly loses some of its sound quality and clarity, but the Mame sound doesn't take a hit.
Is it the sound card?
Sounds like the PC speed/RAM
What CPU and RAM is on there? And what version of winamp? The newest ones do suck, as soon as I go background with winamp 3 or the latest 2.x download available, it gets choppy just like when I first ever tried winamp in 1998 with 32megs of ram, upgrading to 64 fixed that. But right now I have almost 2GHz and 512MB Ram so it's winamp's fault.
I had to roll back to winamp 2.77 and now I'm good again.
Otherwise maybe the settings in winamp for Priority are screwed up, maybe it's set to not take much tasking priority and will allow other programs to get the system resources...
