What do I need for a fully functional coin door?
« on: December 30, 2007, 03:05:47 am »
Total newbie here.

Can someone enlighten me as to what I need for a fully functional coin door?  I've noticed coin door doors and coin mechs sold alone as well as coin boxes.

Can any coin door work with any coin mech?

I looked at Ultimarc and they sell coin doors and mechs but it looks like their coin mech is very specific to their coin door (cutout fits perfectly the coin mech?)

http://www.ultimarc.com/JShopServer/section.php?xSec=9

What about horizontal coin doors?  How to coin mechs work for those?

And these coin mechs sold by Arcadenerd?  (no pics?)
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=63787.0

What coin door would work with those?

Can I just connect the coin mech to the coin pins on a IPAC2?

Geez, I'm so confused...  What do I need to make this all work???

A coin mechanism is just like any other input in the system, such as buttons or joysticks. It is just a microswitch or two, but rather than activating it with a lever or a button, a coin trips it after it is validated in the mechanism. So yes, you just hook them to the coin inputs on the iPac, or to whatever inputs you want to use if you want to change the settings.

Most coin mechanisms are standardized so that they will fit other coin doors, such as the mechanisms used with standard over/under coin doors. The mechanisms from Ultimarc are a proprietary thing that don't work like a standard coin mechanism at all. The ones that Arcadenerd sells are standard coin mechanisms I would assume, which would fit a standard over/under coin door.

The coin box or bucket is just a receptacle for the coins. You can use a tin can if you want—they aren't essential for the mechanism to function.

You might also want to check the bst section, people sometimes sell used complete coin doors.  That's how I acquired my pair.

I have a couple of used over/under coin door assemblies complete with wiring, lighting and switches that could use a new home. I'll even throw in some barrel locks and mechs for it if you are interested. I didn't see a cash box with it, but I'm sure I have one around here somewhere.

They won't be plug-and-play on a JAMMA cabinet, however. You'll have to do some wiring in order to make it work with the IPAC, but if you're a competent wirer it'll be a breeze.

Make an offer if you are interested. I am located in Big Lake, Minnesota.
