My flight stick restrictor plate for tron
« on: January 01, 2008, 02:14:04 pm »
I am so happy to finally have the Happs Heavy Duty.    I hate to see my Qbert stick get sacrificed in the process...but it is still a great thing to have.

First I redid the restrictor plate using my rotozip(great tool!!), now I am in Tron goodness!!   Light cycle level works perfectly.   I got good practice when I used it for routing the plastic off the screen to use the bare LCD screen to eliminate glare, so with that experience, it was alot easier to work with this.   By the way, for anyone complaining about the screen size...keep griping.   I am so glad I stayed with 19 inch, and I have even less regret now for obvious reasons.

Also the added bonus is computer games seem to actually work better from this.   Precise 4 way action gives me more control when paired with the Trackball.   So Call of Duty 4 and Doom3 for example are even more fun.    Keyboards are for squares!

On a side note, yeah it looks sloppy, but I did do a little sanding since the picture.   I don't notice any difference though.    It plays just fine.   Glad I made the move.

This looks great, but I have a couple questions.   Do the diagonals still work ok for you and how hard is it to activate the diagonal directions?  (I thought the original Tron restrictor was made from some kid of hard rubber material that allowed the diagonals to still work, but I may be mistaken)  Also, how did you figure out what size to cut the hole?  Was there a lot of trial and error?

This is a good mod and if I ever got a heavy duty trigger stick I think I would want to do this as well.  Thanks for the pics.

All I did was rotate the restrictor after I traced the 8 way mode.    That made it easier to line up.

As best as I see, the game can be played 4 way restricted.    Yes it isn't technically right, but as of now, this is what I am doing.

It works for me.   I am still working on the top restrictor.

I got it from Happs official....and paid an arm and a leg!   140!!

That said, it had the extra buttons I needed, so it fits my need...after I get this restriction problem figure out!

It sort of looks like the ones from Xenophobe (sp??).  I have some of those in a box somewhere...   :dunno
