Boosting ouput on CRT PC monitor? Anyone tried it?

Hey all!

I take it that we all agree that PC monitors can appear a little 'flat' in the output for use with
arcade and TV. That's probably one of the reasons why many use arcade monitors in their
cabinets(among others)

So, I thought...is it possible to boost the output on the hardware in monitors? I could do this
always on CRT projectors, but maybe some PC monitors has the same 'feature'..
Doing it at the source only give you very nice clipping, and we don't want that!

What do you think?

Edit: I have an Extron RGBHV booster from back in the day, set for long cable runs. Maybe that
could be used to get a higher than .7mV at the inputs of the monitor

the harder the cathodes are driven, the shorter the crt operative life .
this has not changed from the early days of vacuum tubes. 


i have had a few customers wear out a crt within the 2yr warranty period .

EACH customer ran their tv 24/7 @ full contrast and higher than normally accepted brightness.( why ??  )

told each NOT to do same with the new crt   !   and had no callbacks

Sure, but in this case the monitor won't be running 24/7...and with a much lower resolution and
refreshrate.

So I don't think CRT life will be affected much.
