Space Duel Speakers size?
« on: December 19, 2007, 11:36:46 am »
The other day, I bought a Space Duel cabinet that was converted to a Neo Geo for $40. This cab has four speaker holes, two up top and two below the CP. The bottom two are missing. They appear to be 5x7s. But I'm not sure. Before I order some, does anybody know the exact speaker size? And where can I get some grilles? The bottom two are missing.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Space Duel is 6x9 but can't remember if it is 4ohm or 8ohm.

EDIT:  it's coming back to me now... I'm almost certain they are two lines of 6x9 4ohms in series.

Thanks. I finally got the tops ones out so I can measure. There's an interested wooden fixture that slides in that the speakers are attached, and so is the light. They are 6x9. But, the holes are small enough to mount 5x7s if I wanted to. I really don't want 4 speakers but I have to fill up those holes under the CP!

You want 4 speakers in a Space Duel.  In fact, while you have them out, I'd upgrade them.  Space Duel has awesome bass that really screams for quality audio hardware.

Actually, someone already converted it to a NeoGeo cab, I'm now converting to a MAME cab. But I like your idea about extra speakers and bass. Might as well use those hole for something good!

Oh, if you're MAMEing it, than the holes from Space Duel shouldn't matter at all.  Put in whatever speakers you want and make new holes.
