joystick wiring question + what are cn1 and cn2 ?
« on: December 19, 2007, 02:14:12 am »
I'd like to replace the 2 standard 8way joystick + 2 buttons with 2 xenophobe joysticks and have all the buttons work (ie. trigger, button 1 and button 2 on joystick. Maybe the two on the CP itself, but jamma standard is only 3, not sure how to 'add' more connections), is this possible, and where can I find the best info on figuring out this wiring challenge ? It's a standard jamma board, but I'm at a loss. (I know I know, search the forums.. perhaps there's a page out there with a bit of a step by step which would be more useful to start with)

Also, what are the CN1 and CN2 pinouts ? if they are for controllers, then why is everything wired the way it is ?

Thanks,
Very much appreciate the knowledge on this board.

Cn1 & Cn2 are most likely Coin 1 and Coin 2 to register credits for each player.

Need more information.

You say "its a standard jamma board"....what is?  What actual game are you installing?  Or are you going to use a PC/encoder?

If its a board that uses 4 buttons, then find the pinout for it and find where they put them in the harness.  If its similar to the way Namco did it, they used the 3 buttons from the jamma harness, and added a "kick harness" for the 4th button.

To better answer your question, Bob roberts has some real good writeups on his site about wiring up extra buttons to a jamma game.

It's an actual Meta Fox cab (think 1943, etc). Why would I use a PC encoder ?

On the harness, are the buttons always on the same pinout ?

Going to start reading Bob's site, thanks for the tip.
