USB Happ Trackball Question
« on: December 17, 2007, 11:53:43 pm »
I am working on my first Mame control panel. I already have the I-Pac wired to run my 4 joysticks and corresponding buttons. I am wanting to include a Happ 3' trackball as well. I have seen some that have USB connections and support up to 3 buttons. If I were to purchase one of these, would it work in the same manner as it would if I were to buy the standard Happ trackball + Optipac? I'm kind of a rookie to all of this, so break it down into lamen's terms for me if possible.

Yes.  The optipac/optiwiz are interfaces to attach TBs & spinners with standard arcade wiring to PCs.  The TBs with USB connection already have the interface, so don't need the separate boards.

FWIW, some people have had problems with the older version of happs USB boards, but the newer version seems to be behaving better.
Is the new version as good as optipac/optiwiz? :dunno

Just to give you some comfort I have the USB Happ trackball its been great, I just plugged it in and it worked, I never had a single problem with delay or anything on my mame games, I personally give it a 5/5. I have golden tee tourneys and american horseshoes and no contender has ever said a word about the trackball being weird
