ArcadeVGA, need new computer (motherboard) recommendations
« on: December 17, 2007, 11:40:32 am »
I know that this has been asked a million times but I need slight direction.  I searched but I guess didn't use the correct keywords.  I have an Arcade VGA with a PCIE connector, I will be connecting it to ElectrohomeG07 in a DonkeyKong machine that I have restored.  I have a computer to use but the motherboard doesn't have a PCIE slot.

Does anyone have any specific suggestions from tigerdirect and what not so I can swap out the motherboard/chipset (with a PCIe connector) to stick it into computer.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:  I am asking for computer's that I can buy to replace the one I have.  But I will be using the old hard drive, tower, etc...  so i only need a motherboard/chipset

EDIT2:  Cheaper is better and performance needs are minimal since I will only be running 4-way vertical games.

Have you ever tried this before?  Swapping out a motherboard/CPU with the same OS installation is a tricky thing to do.  Or are you planning on a complete reformat?

You won't be able to easily just "swap" out the motherboard. If you are running any Windows OS (other than XP) there is a 99.9% chance you will have to do a clean install. If you have XP, there is a chance you can just do a "Repair Install" of the OS and hope it comes up. I would just as soon do a clean install with a new Motherboard & Chipset. Windows can be unstable if not installed correctly.

You guys are ALL right!!!  ( I could run for office.)

Yes, I did not mention it but a new OS install will be in the works for sure.  I basically just need a decent one with a PCIe slot for the ArcadeVGA graphics card.

Newegg sounds good too northerngames!

btw, you will probably due best to get an older version of the arcade vga and sell yours.

there are a few arcadevga for sale on the buy/sell/trade board... and I bet yours would sell right away.

then you only have to upgrade the vga driver.

You could also try the soft15k drivers and see how they fair for you.  Then just sell your card.  But that will take more tinkering
