Front loading cd-rom drive; no tray model?
« on: December 15, 2007, 11:54:00 am »
Can anyone suggest a PC cd-rom drive that is front loading with no tray?  I'm talking about the type that you feed the CD to, sort of like the CD changer in a car.

Also, if you have any experience with these, do you know if they have issues reading a disk if they are positioned vertically with the slot facing up towards the ceiling?

Thanks for any info!

I think the term is "slot loading" dvd or cd drive. Check out google for the results:

I was looking into getting 2 for my pc but they cost more than they should.  Just because its slot loading they up the price quite a bit.  It would have looked great in my modded pc but it would have been a downgrade to what I already have plus I have more important thing to spend my money on at the moment.

It's probably because of more expensive parts for the slot loaders.  They need to add parts that grasp the CD, pull it in, make sure it is centered right, etc. etc.  These extra parts add to the cost, hence why they cost more.
