Using button switch to operate input circuit and LED

Is it possible to use a single momentary on switch like those you find in arcade pushbuttons to control the input like normal and in addition a LED to light the button when it is pressed without using complex components like NAND gates or relays.

I'm thinking a butload of diodes might be able to get the job done but my knowledge on the subject is fairly limited.

FYI, this is for my Pop'n Music ASC in which the electronics are a PS1 Dualshock if that matters.

Buttload of diodes is how most pop'n ASCs are built.  It works fine for most people, but I had some issues with the reverse capacitance on the diodes doing weird things when the lights were powered giving me double hits and misses.  I have a custom-built controller in my pop'n ASC now with software controlled lights, and I can actually use my lights now :)
