I've been playing SmashTV for the past half-hour, just before that I played Robotron for an hour. My conclusion: A) Robotron > SmashTV.  B) I need to replace my Happ Ultimate with a Happ Competition because you just can't be that accurate with your shots with a mushy, stiff, turd in your right hand. C) Keep the SmashTV as is, except I think you should add a big, red, giant credit button in the center between the sticks, because you end up using that more than the actual sticks.  ;D

Oh well, if the guy is determined to mame it, go ahead and let him. Just gut the thing and sell the stuff to someone that can bring a dedicated cab back to life...

Besides, Mame runs Smash Tv fine...

Just curious if you'd be willing to sell the cabinet as opposed to 'maim'ing it?

What what...how did I get dragged into this.

Its a free country, and if it is his property, then he can do with it as he pleases.   At least he is a fan, and I don't think MAMEing something is "destroying" it.

P.S.  Malenko, go sit on a tack.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious.

BTW, no one is telling him that he can't do something; they are telling him that he shouldn't do something.

Maxim,

I am not saying that can't criticize, I am only stating my view as well.   But yeah, alot of the negative reactions were making fun of the persons design.    As if he as the owner of the machine doesn't have the right to put a big frickin' red X through the whole side panel if he so chooses.

But firstly I am responding to the unwarranted personal attack.

Is that obvious enough for you?

PixelPeZ - I think you'd get a bit more support if the cab didn't look so damn good.

If you're looking for opinions, you should clean up the case, scrap off the rust, touch up the rough areas and play.

If you do decide to go the MAME route - use the existing control panel to keep the lines of the case.

I joined this forum just to say how incredibly sad and sadistic it is to ruin such an amazing game in such great shape.  Yes you can do what you want but you should know how much of an insult it is to those of us who preserve great games.

May Smash TV live on...

... well, it's not as bad as if he gutted a perfectly working Tempest cab  ::)
So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

Frankly I don't see what the big fuss is about. Is this an old guy thing or a collector thing. Some people have said that smash TV would sell for a lot of money, who much to be exact. I mean quite frankly, do built cabs really cost less than the ones you buy already made?

PixelPez,
If you end up mame'ing this cabinet, I'd like to buy your control panel from you.  I have a dedicated SmashTV cab and your control panel looks like its in pretty good shape.  Let me know.

Now hold on, I have extreme opinions on this and those include leaving a game that is treasured by so many (and in such good condition) as it is.  Spend a month or two seriously researching the rarity and worth of a cabinet of this type and quality and posting offers in places that the people who treasure this cab will see them.

and for the record Galaga owns Smash TV, but then again I am under the impression that Galaga pretty much owns everything.
