Mini-Pac - nothing happening please help!
« on: December 09, 2007, 06:57:09 pm »
Hi everyone,

Well I've just bought my first cabinet! I've purchased an already converted cab with a SF2 marquee, Dell 21" CRT monitor and mini-pac (On the board it says MP-2 so I assume the second revision of the board)

The controls are already pre-wired onto a piece of MDF and into the mini-pac I assume correctly as the guy I bought it off was using it prior to selling (He's now got a full Jamma cabinet, no mame)

I'd already built a PC with MameWah (Standard Mame key settings) all ready for the Cabinet and so today have connected it and plugged in the Mini-Pac ('PC' PS2 port on the Minipac to USB) The unit is a Dell Optiplex GX280 running XP SP2.

Unfortunately the Minipac doesn't seem to be relaying any commands...

I've grabbed WinIpac and it can successfully write to the minipac with the standard commands so it's definetly able to be seen from the computer although when I goto the test screen in WinIpac I can press buttons on the keyboard and they come up correctly however if I move the joysticks or press the buttons nothing is shown...

Is there a quick start guide anywhere that may be helpful? Am i better of trying with PS2 rather than USB?

Sorry to be a complete noob, I'm going to play around with it this week and see if I can get some more results (Maybe with a different PC/MAC to rule that out) There is a green LED on the minipac also so at least I know it's getting power.

Thanks for all your help in advance!
Dan

ok well I just connected the ground loom spade connector to the ground connector coming off the mini-pac and action!

Just had a quick go on Metal Slug!

Now just got to remove all my buttons and joysticks off the control panel so I can put some vinyl on there (Just bare MDF as it stands)

Cheers
