Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
« on: December 08, 2007, 06:41:03 pm »
If you haven't tried out the latest version of nulldc (dreamcast emulator), I urge you to give it a shot.  I have been playing Star Wars Episode 1 Racer and the graphics seem flawless.  The response is great and if you like racers, give it a go.   There are a lot of the Dreamcast games that work under nulldc.  For the inevitable, "get a Dreamcast console and put it into your cab", uhh... no.  The ability to run isos instead of having to hand load a cd makes it worthwhile to just run nulldc....for me.

SGT,

I'm going to set up Null DC pretty soon.  Any tips for an easy install and configuration?  Thanks.

I don't really remember any problems.  Below is an example of command line parameters:

-config ImageReader:defaultImage="%path%\%rom%.%ext%"

Here is an important part of nulldc.cfg:

Code: [Select]
;; nullDC config file;;
[ImageReader]
PatchRegion=0
LoadDefaultImage=1

[nullDC]
Dynarec.Enabled=1
Dynarec.DoConstantPropagation=1
Dynarec.UnderclockFpu=0
Dreamcast.Cable=3
Dreamcast.RTC=1543291654
Emulator.AutoStart=1

I just spent a few minutes in it, and I don't see any problems.  Don't see any graphic glitches either.  Never played it before, so I did not test it extensively.

Cool, but what are your system specs? I wonder if my lil 1.2 ghz can handle it?

Oh, and how does mapping to controls work?

Cool, but what are your system specs? I wonder if my lil 1.2 ghz can handle it?

System Requirements for Public Beta 1
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=58165
Quote
2. Recomended System Requirements:
----------------------------------

- CPU: AMD Athlon XP/64/Turion at 2GHz or Intel Pentium 4 at 2.6GHz or equivalent.
- Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 4 TI or ATi Radeon 8500.
- RAM: 512MB
- Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/2003
- December Redistributable of DirectX 9c

The above requirements are considered as the absolute minimum in order to run the emulator as it was
intended to run. The emulator might be able to run on systems that do not meet these requirements
but with issues (like slow speed, GFX errors or Sound errors).

Notes:

- Some games have higher requirements than the rest and have speed issues even on systems that meet
the recomended requirements. In that case a faster CPU is necessary to reach full speed.

- Pentium 4 CPUs perform some tasks slower than other CPUs, thus the clock speed of 2.6GHz is needed.
On the other hand, Pentium M CPUs perform the same tasks much faster
(A Pentium M 750 at 1.86GHz should be enough to reach full speed).
Intel Celeron and AMD Duron (and probably Sempron) CPUs are slow and it's expected to perform worse than the rest

- Nvidia Geforce 4 MX video cards are worse than the TI series and they do not meet the minimum requirements.

- DirectX 9c has many redistributables. It's common to have an older version installed that misses certain necessary
files.
Be sure to download and install the December redistributable or the default graphics plugin will fail to Load.

- nullDC will run on Windows Vista. However, hardware requirements will be a little higher than the ones mentioned
above and there will probably be sound related issues (as with many other applications running on Vista).

On this particular PC, I don't yet have a video card...its using integrated video.  It's a P4 3.2, but I tried it several months ago on a lesser computer and didn't notice any slow downs.   Give it a test drive.

Ok, thanks for the response.

So, you run this in your cab?

Also, is there any info on making the ISO files from my discs? Any special instructions or is it pretty straighforward?

These are CDI files which is similiar to ISOs. I said iso in my original post, sorry.  It seems that nulldc will run cdi, nrg, mds, or gdi.  I did not create my own, and have only used cdi from within nulldc.   Most of the image files I dl'd were cdi, but some were bin/cue.  I converted them to cdi using bin2boot.exe.  I have read of people creating their own from discs with no problem, but I haven't done so myself.  You might check some of the nulldc compatibility lists of the games you want to create a cdi for before going to too much trouble.  Or post here on a particular game you want me to try to see how well it runs.

I am dying to get nulldc on my cab, I have promised myself I won't do anything else until I put this damn MAME video set to bed.  But I am going to use my console to make the previews, figure that will make it future proof.

Question, last time I loaded it up, 6 months or so ago, Marvel vs. capcom 2 was ALMOST perfect but had some graphical glitches, can anyone verify if these have been fixed in later releases.

I see vertical line glitches from time to time around the characters.  I tried various graphics settings but nothing seem to help.  KEEP IN MIND,  I don't yet have a video card in this computer so that doesn't help.

I played it the other day on my quad core system with 8800GTS and didn't notice any probs.

Yep, might have been my lack of a video card.
