What's the difference between these joysticks?
« on: May 11, 2003, 06:27:25 pm »
I understand that Happ is the preferred joystick supplier. So, I want to know the differences between these 8-way joysticks. Please give specific details; don't say "ultimates suck" or "competitions are good for fighter." Tell me why ultimates suck, and why competitions are good for fighters. And I don't need any obvious details, such as "rotaries rotate." Thanks in advance.

Ultimate
Competition
Super
Universal
Rotary
Optical
Perfect 360

i was just about to ask this same question!! please throw in some of those j-stick or japanese standard ball top sticks in there as well.

Here's my $.02: i've only handled the ultimates and competition. IMO, the ultimates suck and the competitions are good for fighters, hehe...now i've never installed a ultimate into my cp, but from messing around with it, it seems it likes to click/snap/pop into the 4 way positions and you would then need to pull it on. the competitions seem to have a smoother transition with no clicking except from microswitches. the ultimate can also double as a 4way since you have the option of installing a squared piece onto the end of the joystick which makes it touch the switches, like a 4way posing as a 8way.

Anyone know more? I don't think I'ved used any of these joysticks. If I have, I didn't know which ones they were.

Two words.

Leaf switch

Find a joystick with a balltop, leafswitches and a rubber centering ring and you will be very happy with it. Makes all them Happ sticks feel like garbage, (maybe with the exception of the 360, which I haven't used).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

How are 8way leafs on fighting/modern games?  (stares at currently unused pair of leaf 8 balltop eightways)

hmmm...  (interested in your thoughts on that PO...
