Wiring Ultimarc 360 harness to Happ buttons
« on: December 05, 2007, 11:07:21 am »
Is there a step by step guide for wiring Happ Buttons to Ultimarc 360 wiring harness, and then the steps to configuring the 360 to mame?

Also  what type and size of break away clips do I need to connect to the Happ buttons?

AND, throw out any ideas on mounting the 360 to the control panel so it is flush...thanks for your info in advance.

I don't have a 360 yet, planning on them for my next project.  I found instructions on the ultimarc site

http://ultimarc.com/ultrastik_inst.html
Look for a section named "The connections for the 10-pin header are as below:"

You will have to daisy chain the black to the ground of all the switches.  Once you have it connected and is detected in control panels edit your mame.ini to enable joystick.  Start mame and hit tab to go to input (general) and set the buttons to the appropriate inputs.

My happ horizontal pushbuttons take .187 disconnects but some may take different sizes.

You can mount the joystick from the bottom but you may need the longer shafts.  You can also top mount them if you route a recess for them.  See this excellent write in the woodworking forum http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=51235.0

It's extremely easy to attach the buttons.
It is also very easy to configure them in Mame, just enter the setup menu.

For your mounting...check out how forum member Javeryh does it. I did it the same way and it works great!

I bottom mounted mine in 3/4" MDF but I routed about 1/2 the material away to make the shaft a bit longer.  Oh, I also installed the "long shafts" in it.  HERE is how I did it.

Not sure that helps you top-mount it but the process woud be the same.... cut a rectangular through hole in your CP that the black base of the joystick fits into and then route out a section on top the same thickness and size as the metal mounting plate so it will drop the joystick flush with the top of the control panel.  Then finish it by drilling out the 4 holes in the corners for the bolts/screws or whatever you decide to use.
