Personally, I like how they are not just following a time-line and showing the history of video games.  That's been done many times before.  Instead, they are drilling down a little deeper and exploring sub-topics.  I enjoyed episode 2, which chronicled character development.  But then again, I enjoy most of the video game documentaries.  Even the lame ones are good for their nostalgic value.

Just about to watch it now, looking forward to it but I do hope they keep away from the cold war/military side of thing's in this episode and concentrate more on the game side of thing's. :)

Regards.

So what the hell?  They completely skipped over Street Fighter and the fighting game revolution.   Mortal Kombat, the whole social uproar about violence in video games that poured into PC, Nintendo and Sega.

One of the biggest issues at the time in videogames was whether or not to show toned down violence and blood.

Unbelievable.

Wow, I'm really disappointed.

No talk about Mortal Kombat.  No talk about Street Fighter.  They jump to Grand Theft Auto but don't talk about how Wolfenstein was a revolunationary move on PC gaming.  How Doom was so popular that it crashed large sections of the internet with downloads.   How Dune birthed the RTS genre.

As an avid gamer since 1980 I have to say I'm really disappointed with the quality of the series thus far.  They really seem to just gloss over important parts.

Makes me think that this is corporate america trying to rewrite history
with its own version.   That this is merely some sort of giant commercial for
current games sales.

When you think about it... it makes sense.  Who is going to fund a
realistic and embarrassing view of Gaming history?

What a sad state we live in today  :(

I must say the more I watch and the more the seem to skip games and events the more it brings home just how rich video game history is.  I don't think they could make a documentary that would satisfy everyone.  I cut my teeth on Atari 800 which was (understandably) barely mentioned.

The series has gotten my kids interested in video game history which is a great thing.

What about that dude who is listed as a "Video Game Consultant?"  How do you get that gig?
