Confusion over T-molding sizes, please help!
« on: November 28, 2007, 02:33:05 pm »
Please someone help and confirm I'm not going mad!

I want to order the correct size T-molding for my cab, and I've kindly been sent free samples from a guy on UK ebay called spanner0_2. I've since contacted him again and he's adamant he's sent the correct sizes that I asked for.

My cab's sides are 18mm plywood, so I asked for samples of 11/16" (17.5mm) and 3/4" (19mm).

After checking them against my 18mm plywood it appears the samples are wider than expected (I've checked my ply is exactly 18mm).  The 11/16" blue one when measured flat is more like 19mm (3/4") and the 3/4" red one is more like 21mm (just over 13/16").

Please check the pics (11/16" is blue, 3/4" is red) and let me know if I'm going mad, or if T-molding is supposed to be wider than the actual dimensions they are said to be!  It's driving me up the wall because I can't order until I know the size I want.

Thanks!

The 3/4" t-moulding at least looks far too big.

I used 18mm MDF on my old cab and used 3/4" t-moulding (from t-moulding.com) and it just very slightly over lapped the edges (which figures as 3/" is 19.05mm, so 0.5mm a side.)

Looks like the seller sent you the wrong stuff or he doesnt know what he's on about. I would be careful if you order a load from him as you may end up with a load thats too big.

Im from the UK and ordered from t-moulding.com. It was cheap and fast shipping too.

If you want I still have a section of 3/4" t-moulding left over from my last project and I can post you a bit if you want to check theirs and compare it to your ply and the other sample you got.
