I bought this thing in the hopes of being able to normalize the volume being produced by my computer.  Some MP3 songs are louder than others, so this sound card was hopefully going to help me ensure all MP3 volume levels remained constant.  The card comes with the volume normalization feature in the included software, however, I think I must play my MP3 files using their "Creative Music Player" application which is supplied with the sound card in order for volume normalization to be used.

Can someone verify whether this is in fact the case ...... am I forced to use their music player in order to get volume normalization?

Problem is, my jukebox software uses the WinXP Windows Media Player to play all my music, so I can not use their Creative music player.   Anyway, I am hoping someone might have a solution for me which will allow me to get volume normalization while using Windows Media Player instead.

I use the prg 'MP3Gain' to normalize the volume on my mp3 collection.  works perfectly for my juke box.  It shouldn't matter what you use to play the mp3's since it changes the mp3 file itself and sets the levels.

yeah I have done the same thing using my media player ( Media Monkey ).  It has a feature which balances and sets levels for all the music in my library.  It acually changes the mp3 (or whatever format) and averages sound volume between all of them.  Its a free download, so you may want to try it out.
