Authentic?? Mario Bros. from Orig. Home only 695 Plays
« on: November 18, 2007, 12:09:01 pm »
I need some help. I found this "so-called" RARE Mario Bros. which is described as original and has been in this same home since it was purchased in 1983 and only has 695 plays on it.

Here it is:

Ebay Link To Mario Bros. cab

It is really close to where I am, so I am interested in buying it if it IS ORIGINAL. But I have some reservations. First off, it looks really new and not at all dusty after 24 years. Secondly the pics of the back show plywood and the paint job looks amatuerish. I have never owned this machine so I don't know what the factory indeed used for the back door, but I assume it wasn't plywood.

Can anyone who owns this game or is familiar with it's factory construct take a look and tell me if they see anything in the pics that is a red flag for them? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Looks perfect to me. Not sure how much I'd pay for it, but that looks like the real thing.

Wow !! Nice cabinet. If it's in your price range..... then I'd get it.

That is a superb example of a typical Mario Bros. that you will find most often.

BUT......

Just for the record, those were kits for the blue cabinets.
The original came in the widebody cabinets with the speaker in the center of the front panel and all that good stuff. (orange and black)
Note that the last three letters of the serial number are PAK, meaning it was a Nintendo PAK that was installed. (kit)
Also note the manual they have pictured. (from a kit also)

But with all that aside it's a very nice Mario Bros.
As original as it gets in that style cabinet.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

55 miles away from me, so you better get it before I do  ;D.

Just kidding, it's over 400 already and the reserve isn't even met yet. The real find is when you read an ad where the person is begging for anyone to come haul away the original like-new Pac-Man that a previous tenant left behind. (an actual ad I read on Craigslist last month)  ;D

Thanks....I think I'll go ahead and bid, but my top price is no where near the BIN amount, so have at it Namco if you got the cash.

Looks like the guy who got it (chuckythecat) is a rich Canadian. Dude used Buy It Now for $1200. His other auction wins include a Moon Patrol for 280 and a Donkey Kong JR for 460. Also bought some DK sideart, so he must have one of those too  ;D

i would have paid 1200 for it! im a bit silly like that. but since its in such good condition, theres nothing to spend on it. compare it to this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110130532064&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX&refitem=120182930880&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget

which doesnt even have side art!
