Clear vinyl?
« on: November 16, 2007, 08:06:35 pm »
Does anyone know if clear vinyl is availiable that has that "grainy" texture, like the Happ Pico Vinyl?

I'm thinking I could paint the sides of the cab, then put on the side art, and apply the vinyl to give a smooth "finished" look to the side.

Okaaaay...  so what else could I cover the sides with?  I'm basically looking to try and make the side art decal not look so much like a decal.

But that's what side art looks like!

I know what you mean about side art looking 'stuck on'. It looks especially 'bad' if it is a square/rectangular shape that does not follow the lines of the artwork. I think the best looking side art is either that which follows said lines, or fully blown, whole side side art.

Of course if you are replicating a cab which had square etc side art just ignore me  :D

But if you put clear vinyl on it, it'll look like grandma's plastic slipcovered couch.  ;D

Holy crap, that 3M stuff is cool, but expensive!

I dunno, I want the entire side to look like a laminated CPO, but was cheaping out on how to do it.  I'm just going to have to settle for the decal look.  Sigh....

What about colors?  Anyone know where I can get Pica Vinyl in Ms. Pac Man blue?  ;D

Why don't you print the side art on a piece of vinyl that will cover the entire side panel?

Clear coat:  You'd still be able to see that the decal was a decal.

Printing on the vinyl-  That would work, but I still need to find the blue vinyl, and find a place that will do it.  Time is sort of a factor.

I'm just going to have to settle for the decal look.  Thanks anyway guys!
