Cheap videocard with video out + TV PCI Video in card?
« on: November 16, 2007, 03:43:35 pm »
Im a bit of a Video card noob so I thought I would ask you guys for some help
Im looking to get a videocard for my cocktail cab. The main reason I want one is so I can use the video out to send the video to my TV but the extra video power from a card would also be a bonus. This has been suggested to me and for the price it looks like a bargain. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get it?

I also looking to get a TV PCI card so I can have component video in from external sources. Looking at good old ebay I can see there are a couple of cheap ones on there. Either this one or this one. Would they be ok for my need? Would the Phillips one be better than the other one? There is only a could of quid in it so I dont mind going for the Phillips if it will be better.

Taking a quick look at the tuner cards you listed, I couldn't find any spec that said component input...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

See how much of a vid noob i am  ::) I actualy mean composite in.

The auction for the 1st one states "Easily connect a DVD player, VCR or games console to your PC with the S-Video and A/V composite jack" So I should be good to go in that case?

The av jacks  will handle your composite.   If you want a better picture Svideo would be better.   You might want to look for a slightly better card that does mpeg encoding on board to take the load off your CPU.

Most graphics cards that have an s-video in on them, are actually only composite sync over an S-video plug and not true s-video.
