Mini Wheel opinions
« on: November 15, 2007, 07:12:34 pm »
I was thinking of installing two of those mini steering wheels that work on spinner controls. Anyone have any experience with these?  We're not huge racing fans here, so I thought something small would give everyone a decent amount of elbow room.

Mostly for me.. APB goodness.

Where can you still get these?  Thought they were Oscar, and they are gone ( I think).

Randy sells em with a Range of wheel sizes, the 5" is a bit too small (IMHO). I need to get another turbo Twist and will order the 7" wheel to go with it.

Honestly...

I don't like mine...it's a pain in the ass to switch from spinner to the wheel...so much so that I put the wheel on,  used it for about a week,  wanted to play tempest,  put the spinner knob back on,  and the wheel has sat,  unused for 6 months since.

The wheel idea is a GREAT one if there was an instant disconnect for the knob of some sort (the wheel itself doesn't actually "mount"...but not in it's current form IMHO.

how was it for gameplay ? Did it not feel good enough to bother with or was it decent and you're just not into swapping it back and forth ? I plan on leaving it on there, if I get one.

I found that using it on a standard slightly slopping panel made it feel wrong, you have to turn the wheel like driving a bus or truck.

When I set it up again I'll try mounting it at a steeper angle, closer to a standard arcade wheel set up.
