Help - Music Search Engine needed
« on: November 15, 2007, 07:39:28 am »
Howdy all,

I have a couple of jukebox's running. The trouble is they all contain so many songs than ppl take forever to load the playlists.

What I would like to do is just load, say the top 20 hits by each artist.

eg.  Eagles - The top 20 most successful recording songs
Wham -  The top 20 most successful recording songs
Beatles - The top 20 most successful recording songs

The problem lies in that, I can't find a search engine that will provide me with this information..... I just want to enter the artists name and have it list the most popular songs.

Has anyone come across a search facility on the net like this?

Your best option is to load greatest hits albums rather than discography's...

In freebox i have a feature called DECADES which has the top 10 listings by year and month that lets people find popular selections. That coupled with the search routine where they can search by artist, track or album title and quick jump covers for all albums by the same artist tend to help keep finding what you want fairly quick.

In the next release i will be using the most played songs list to display popular tracks by an artist on the track selection screen also.

What you are after i have not seen on the web, but i think my solutions should mean you don't need to trim your collection. I'm running with 6,000 albums on my juke and i can find a track in under a minute using a search.

Barcrest - thanks for the reply.

I can't believe nobody else had any input......
I would have thought everyone had his problem.

I do not keep full albums on any artist on my jukebox since there are usually just a few songs per album which are worth listening to .... in my opinion.  I am older and appreciate the songs from the 70's 80's and 90's most.  Instead of trying to find top 10 (or 20) songs per artist, I simply searched for "Billboards Top 100" songs for each year from 1970 through 1999 to find the most appreciated songs for each year.

As a result, most songs on my jukebox would be ones I would want to listen to anyway, so there is no big need to try to eliminate the unwanted songs from being played.   You might want to try eliminating unwanted songs from your jukebox to solve your problem.

This is why i added the decades feature to freebox. It now comes with the UK charts and AUS charts. I'm hoping to have the Billboard charts in very soon.

There must be an online database somewhere... that lists each artist's songs in record sales... or something like that.

surely someone must know..
