My PS2 has DRE!!!

Hey guys i turned on my PS2 in my cab today and it does not play anything!!!     What should I do!!!  I used air to get rid of the dust and I cleaned the lens with alcohol.  Still nothing  the no disc found error!!!   any help here!! I have the ice mod chip.

There are tons of good webpages out there on how to fix this.  A quick google should pop up way more than we could tell you.

there's a white COG wheel that can ajust the laser's height and moves it up and down try clicking it 2-3 time's to bring the laser closer.

also mark the gear cog on a spot so you know where the origanal setting is so you can go back to it if the laser height is not an issue.

if that fails completely the laser may be dying and you would need to drop the OHMs on the laser by tweaking the pot while reading it with a mulimeter.

try it it 50-OHM increments until you get it reading good again but you should be lowering the numbers and not raising them.

dont crank it way down though becuase it will over power the laser and kill it ad also possibly laser burn the disk so just go 50-OHM each run and only go 300-400ohm less from your begining number anything lower then that and it still dont work then the laser is shot.

it is possible something is in/on the inner eye under the laser or possble something on the mirror.

I have fixed countless xbox and ps2 DDE's and alot of time they just need a good cleaning and a pot tweak.

 Another cuase and while you have the dvd drive's lid off pop off the white disk lock that in the lid and stick a disk in the tray and set that on top of it like it would as if it were still attached in the lid and power the system on.

 See if it is spinning the disk still and if not you need a new spindle motor this also will cuase the console not to read anything becuase the disk cannot spin.

another thing to try it clean and relube the laser's guide rails these are the 2 pole's one on each side that the laser slide's back and forth on.

ps2's have 2 pots one for dvd and one for CD-R have you tried a cd-r yet?

if they bothe fail it is some type of laser issue if one work's but not the other more then likely a pot tweak would do it.

Thx for the help!  I have tried dvd r-, regular games and movies.  I did try a disc cleaner and was able to play that but nothing still works.

Do I have to open the PS2 to adjust the laser?  And forgot to mention it was a slim w/ a crystal mod chip.

Yes, you need to open and partially dismantle it.  And use a DMM to measure the pot changes.

What version slim?  if it is the first one (i think 12) then it probably died from using the discs.  Mine has this problem so im going to try and get a hd hooked up or just get a laserfix.

Yeah have taken it apart cleaned very thing with air and redid the the laser with alcohol and still no luck!  It sucks!!

try a dvd-r and then a cd-r and see if one or the other works.

if one does and not the other turn the pot a little.

Is the laser assembly moving at all?  if it isnt it could be a bigger problem or the white arm that rests on the threaded rod might be worn out.

it moves, I might just have to buy a hard drive and just run the games from that.  I do have an original copy (HD Advance).  So I might not be totally assed out, anyone using this program.  I bought it is over a year and connect it w/ a external HHD that was not on the list and could not get it to work.  Contacted the author of the program and he offered me a refund but he lived in Canada....thus I would half what I paid for it to ship it back.  The dude was also very rude

if you want to get advance to work you need an hdcombo or connect kit.  they are about 60 dollars which is why i havent gotten one yet.  an external drive only works with usbextreme or advance.
