problem with Gamepads & Mamewah
« on: November 06, 2007, 09:31:21 pm »
ok here is the problem, I have got a GP-Wiz for the interface for my control panel, I also have two Xbox controllers hooked up for computer/console games.  My problem is that when they are all plugged and I boot my computer they all seem to fail.  If I boot with just the GP-wiz plugged in and plug the controllers in once everything is running, everything works great.  When I reboot with all plugged in nothing works, I even exit out of mamewah to windows and my "joytokey buttons" do not work at that level, however it shows all devices are "OK".  Anyone else ever run into problems with multiple Gamepads or anyone got any suggestion??

Just moving this tread up to the top again to get seen by some fresh eyes. An update as well,  downloaded a joyid program moved some id's around but alas the problem persists.  I also shut off the power saving option to the usb root hubs. When all are plugged in and I reboot nothing works in mamewah, but in windows my second Xbox controller  "gets the focus" of Joytokey and my buttons that I mapped work(which is not my ideal setup).  Any suggestions???

Also is there any way to delay usb ports from working.  My thought in this is that if I somehow delay the two controllers until mamewah is loaded then enabling them it would (maybe) work.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as I am sick of being a "switchboard operator" for a game of Mike Tyson's Punch out  ;D

Try xpadder it might solve the problems you are having with joytokey.

My main problem is with getting these things to work in Mamewah after a reboot.  I just use Joytokey for mouse clicks when I am in windows.

ok I have search everywhere for this.. i saw at the mamewah forums some people having a similar issue.  ok..this is what I have got:  the "focus" moves to one of the controllers instead of keeping it one the GP-wiz.  It shows this issue in mamewah and joytokey.  So it leads me to believe that is must be a windows issue.  But then I tried Mala and it seems to work as it is suppose to.  So I am at a loss of what to do next. Any input on this would GREATLY appreciated!!!

If you have set your pc to boot straight into mamewah via a shell edit in registry editor, joytokey will not load before mamewah. I had a similar problem, and instead had to use the less-neat method of dropping joytokey and mamewah into the 'startup' folder of XP instead. That way joytokey launches first, then mamewah follows it.

Yes I am mamewah as a shell via the registry edits.  But I don't use joytokey in mamewah.  I was just saying that joytokey and mamewah act in a similar fashion.  Both act fine until I reboot then my Xbox controller gets the "focus" while my GPwiz gets pushed to the second or third joystick(which I don't want to happen). this happens in mamewah and joytokey, but Mala seems to work fine.  Could it be a deviceID issue with the Xbox controllers taking priority over the GPWiz???

If these are all USB devices and you are using XP. it could be down to XP's dynamic USB device assigning, especially if you are using a hub. It could be that Mala is saving the USB ID order o your devices before closedown and power off, whereas Mamewah does not.
This is just a guess though.

Some programs like mame and mamewah assign USB device order numbers by the order that directx gives them out when queried. If you only have one USB gamepad device hooked up then you are fine, it will alway be gamepad/joystick 1. If you have multiple that you want to plug and unplug then you start running into problems. Some USB gamepad devices like to appear first in the returned list, maybe for compatibility reasons. The arcade hardware USB device interfaces like the GPwiz and the Ultimarc stuff seem to act nice but a lot of gamepads don't. What happens is that when you just have your GPwiz connected it is device1, but when you plug in a gamepad it steals the device1 slot and your GPwiz becomes device2 which screws up mamewah and joy2key and mame. I have this problem as well so I just keep my gamepads plugged in all the time. If you ever find a solution to the problem let us all know.

Would this utility help?

http://www.redcl0ud.com/xbcd.html#about

I like the idea either to report as a gamepad or joystick.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
