Monitor angle tilt (lowboy and other cabs)?
« on: November 01, 2007, 10:36:25 pm »
Hi all

I'm trying to determine the angle for the monitor for my cab design.

I've got several sources of plans for a lowboy cab, and a large number of pics, and the angle of the monitor seems to vary.

Holdennut, your monitor seems to be on a 30 degree tilt. Hbm*rais, yours seems to be on a 20 degree tilt. And from the photos I've seen for research, the monitor angles for other cabs tend to fall within this angle range.

What about other lowboy builders? What angle did you set your monitor at?

As to the larger (non-lowboy) community out there, what are the pros / cons for steeper vs shallower angle for monitors? Because some of the cabs I've seen here look like the angle is 45 degrees and even steeper...

Anubis,

You're right, my plans call for a 20 degree tilt, but since a finished my cab I tilted the monitor panel a little more toward the player. It's now probably closer to 30 degrees, although the angle of the glass that covers it is still 20 degrees.

It's much more comfortable for me now, as with the old angle I used to unconciently lean over the CP to face the monitor straight.

Good to know, hbm*rais.

I think I'll change the plan to a 30 degree tilt, in line with holdennut's plans.

An added benefit is also, that due to the steeper monitor, the same monitor area takes up less horizontal space (love that Pythagoras). So my cab can be made shallower than what it would be with a 20 degree tilt.

How cool is that? More comfortable viewing angle, and shallower cab as a result... two birds, one stone, and all that...

love that Pythagoras

You might want to double-check your measurements, just to be safe.
Pythagoras didn't know jack about neck tubes and neck boards.
If the tube/neckboard combo is deeper than the face of the monitor is wide, the depth of the cab will have to increase as the monitor tilts toward 90 degrees.

FARK!!!

How the hell did I miss that? I forgot for a moment I had a CRT (shut up, genesim! :P)

But yeah, careful measurements etc etc...

Damn... you let me down, Pythagoras!!!!
