NANAO MS8-26SU With Jail Bars - Now Fixed and working OK
« on: November 01, 2007, 06:25:46 pm »
Help! I have about 5 or 6 dark bars to the left ok my display

I know the first thing you will probably say is to Re-cap first, but I have changed all the Electrolytic caps I could get from my local store, but still have 3 left to change. Does anybody know which Cap, if it is a cap problem I should be changing? Thanks in advance.

For a better picture, please look here as image on this site seems to get resized incorrectly. http://www.gizmosltd.co.uk/sega.jpg

i would looking at the g2 output line from the flyback, any electrolitcs on that line and also there should be a resistor on the neck card
you should also check grounds and adjustments

Hi Grantspain,

g2 output line? also any idea which pot I should be looking at tweeking. I have changed the cap on the tube neck, and the only other Cap I have not changed yet is the biggest one next to the big transformer with the flyback lead comes from.

see if your picture changes brightness and bar effect when you adjust the horizontal shift and/or horizontal hold
i will check my ms8 tomorrow to trace the neck resistor

Thanks Grantspain,
could you also please confirm for me if the black lead that goes to the earth of the tube, connects to the single pin on the main board, or does it go to the pin on the neck board, as mine currently connects onto the main board. I bought the machine with the fault, so not sure if the chap connected it back correctly. Many thanks for your help :)

earth strap wire from the tube should go to ground connection on the neck otherwise you get strange video problems

LMFAO, thanks for confirming that Grantspain. I just got the manual out and thought it was in the incorrect place as the circuit diagram said, just changed it to the correct place and it is now working 100%, looks like the knob that tried fixing it connected it wrong. It was still worth changing all the capacitors though, as I can see a vast improvement in the picture quality. Thanks again for your help

Yep all gone thanks.

The guy I bought it from had sent the board for repair as it had a frame collapse and obviously re-installed the earth incorrectly.
