Happ p360 mounting
« on: May 07, 2003, 12:00:22 am »
Leaning toward buyting two Happ p360's mounting one with Oscars plate so I can use his 4-way restrictor for the 4-way games.  The second player control I would like not to have anything sticking up through the top for mounting like oscar has in his picture here:
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/tmp/P360-wico2.jpg

How is this done?  You just use shorter screws so they dont go through top of the control panel?  If so is this strong enough durability?  Seems it would be stronger by going all way through using a nut.  I can never be happy lol.

Has anyone used the Happ p360's with IPAC?  How exactly do I wire this to the IPAC?  The 4 connections for directions must be labeled up down etc.  And what about the +5 connection?  Needs power?

Sorry for all the noobish questions but I like to get things right the first time and I usually take things harder than they really are.

One other thing, anyone have an idea what kind of wire Oscar used to wire his control panel here:
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/tmp/P360-wico3.jpg
I like how all the individual groupings of wires are already insulated.  Makes things much nicer than having individual wires and using ties all over the place.

Again thanks..

I used #6 x 3/4" screws to hold the joysticks in from the bottom.  Many people will say that they will not last this way.  I have a "fighting" cabinet that gets regular use and has had the joysticks mounted this way for 3 yrs now and they have not come loose at all.  I grin every time I read a post about how you can't just screw joysticks in from the bottom and have them last...  ;)

One thing that really helps is a very tight recess.  I undercut a 3/8" deep recess for the joystick base into the underside of the control panel.  I actually have to tap the joystick bases into the control panel with a rubber mallet and then screw them in.

Yes, they need +5V.  Look closely at the http://www.oscarcontrols.com/tmp/P360-wico3.jpg photo and you can see a red connector with a white strain relief cover connected to the I-PAC power/led header.  This red connector is where I am getting the +5V for both joysticks from the I-PAC.

I gave a link to where I purchased the multiconductor cable in this thread:  http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=6545;start=0

In regards to the "red connector with a white strain relief cover connected to the I-PAC power/led header".  It looks like the white cap thing is plugged into the IPAC with one red wire coming out connected to a red connector, which splits two red wires out to the two controllers.  Is this all one pice (the white cap connected to ipac and red connector)?  Where can I get this item?

The connector that is plugged into the IPAC header can be found here (I use style "A"):  http://www.mouser.com//catalog/614/571.pdf.  The optional strain relief cover is here:  http://www.mouser.com/catalog/614/573.pdf, style "A" again.

Then I used a Scotchlock wire tap to split the +5V to power the second joystick.

The connector you use, there were a few options for the style "A".  w/ or w/out polarizing tabs?  What is the No. of Pos.?  I tried to look closely at the pic but its hard to tell.  And what pins of the header do I put the connector on?  Sorry for being a pain but I just don't want to fry anything figuring it out myself.  Plus I don't have my IPAC yet, can't wait!

These are the same connectors that I supply to use with my optic boards, so I used a 4-position connector although you really are only connecting to 1 pin (+5V).

Would it help if I just threw a few connectors in an envelope and send them to you?  PM me your address and I'll send them out.

http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html has the pinout for the I-PAC header so you will know where to connect it to.
