So Where's All The Colour ?
« on: October 24, 2007, 01:25:55 pm »
Whilst ALL of the cabinets on this forum are fantastic  I haven't seen many that aren't black !!  Any reason ?

I'm toying with doing something different but not sure what, will probably keep it black  :laugh2:

Any pix of bright cabinets?

I considered colors but black just looked best for my style of cabinet, especially since my CP is all black with lighted buttons.

There are plenty of different colored projects.
Here is the most vibrant one you will find though.

Also, black is cheap.

IMO, I grew up in the 90's. Pretty much every cab was black, except for complete Mortal Kombats and Killer instinct cabinets.

Agreed but I do fancy doing something with a bit of colour.

Heh, thanks shardian...

Here's a washed out pic in all its glory:

It is much pinker in person (and totally uniform in color) but the flash on my crappy camera distorts everything...

Also black is best for hiding the imperfections of the wood (or workmanship).

Heh, if you take the time to read thru the threads with guys who do color work, you'll see they go thru quite a bit extra work to get a nice clean paint job.

Mine is supposed to be yellow, but it's no where near done:

At least you got the main part done. I haven't even started mine's yet. All I have is a rendition. It's also going to be yellow. So it can be reminiscent of the Q-Bert cab but will have black on the front and panel, also like the Q-Bert cab.

Here's a pic of it. It's a work in progress.

Black is so slimming though.

With the lights off, you can't tell what color it is. Heck, I have red t-mold on the right and blue on the left, but you can't tell all that much. I've got the Ms. Pac, DK, JP pin, and Asteroids for all my colored cabs. I think the all black MAME looks nice (not cheap, as it was suggested), and it gives me room for side art options.

Note: The green light in that pic has been replaced with blue and a MUCH stronger black light presence is now in the room. The colors really pop now.

Oh yeah, I also built a blue one... come to think of it I have yet to make a black cabinet (and the next one won't be black either).

It's stained, not painted like it looks... yeah - my crappy camera strikes again!

That Boo cab is awesome.

I need a complete rethink  :hissy:  Was going to go black with a simple CP & Marquee (and probably still will) but these cabs have got me a thinkin  :applaud: :applaud:

A full art package can be pricey, which is another reason most people go black and add some small art. It can be pretty difficult to come up with a paint scheme that looks good.
Here is a good example of a paint scheme that kicks ass. I wish Gamecreature was still around...
