Questionabout multiple pointing devices
« on: May 05, 2003, 11:06:04 am »
Quick question, I have a serial trackball, and a Wico trackball hooked up through a Oscar controls USB trackball adapter.  the Wico trackball optics are split between 2 steering wheels.  Anyway in windows 98 and Advancemenu the cursor acts as expected.  the serial tackball moves in all directions correctly, and the wheels act as expect as well..one spins the x axis and one spins the y axis.

however when I begin playing a game like Off-Road, one wheel spins and BOTH axis turn, the other wheel does nothing to either axis.  I did not notice it until I tried my first 2 player game and I was controling both cars, fun for me, but I think you can see why player 2 was a little bummed  ;)

anyways, any ideas or suggestions?  I've been trying to go through the archives and have not come across anything like that.  I am running Advanced MAME and AdvancedMenu.

thanks

You might want to try Analog Mame...

Although I'm confused about what's happening to you... Analog mame should give you the flexibility in windows 98 to separate axises and assign different mices to different thingies... =P

I don't run AdvMame, but ... Are you using the input_map[I,trakx|traky] [-]mouse[M,A] correctly?  ( http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/doc-advmame.html , section 8.9.8 )  Sounds like the mouse X axis is mapped to player 1 & 2 X axis, instead of mouse X to player 1, and mouse Y to player 2.

Hmm... I'll need to look at the AdvMame code and see how they do this; Mame:Analog+ doesn't have a good way to map the mouse axes from the commandline, yet.  -splitmouseaxes is the closest to this AdvMame feature, but that's not as detailed control.

Hey ny - I really like what you did with the wheels here.   Would you be willing to take a few more pictures, and do a how-to writeup?  I'd be happy to host it here if you need web space.

Thanks!
