Looking for Chrome Joysticks
« on: October 19, 2007, 01:58:44 am »
Hi there,

I saw some chrome joysticks on slikstick's website. They had 'pear' shaped handles, not the ball top. Does anyone else sell these, as I've read some bad things about slikstick these days. Plus they are kinda pricey. :)

Thanks for any info!

What joys are they and how much were they? I may be able to make you some cheaper.

Aren't the joys on the SlikStik site stainless?  Might be why they're expensive...

Yeah the SlikStiks are Stainless Steel.

These are some I made for my Happ Rotaries before I sold them.

Damn they are sharp looking. What would you charge for a pair of them? Did you have any preference for the stainless or aluminum?

Thanks. The picture doesnt do them justice really, my pictures seem to go a bit funny when I post them on here.

I originally made the stainless ones but they were a little too 'heavy' for my happ rotaries so i decided to make the aluminium ones which are obviously lighter but less durable (with not being anodised).

Cost is a hard issue really seeing as they are pretty much all one off's. For example if I was to make a similar job for a customer at work you would probably looking at two hours for programming, tool setting, machining and polishing/finishing for a pair which at £75/h ($150) you would be looking at $300 a pair  just for labour :o

Obviously no one is going to pay that but I dont mind making jobs for people in my lunch hours etc or programming etc whilst the machine is running as I do like making jobs for people and get satisfaction from it. Obvioulsy I would still have to charge something for material and a couple of beer tokens though. I see slickstick do them for $35 a piece so I suppose I would have to undercut them and do them for $25 a piece.

can they be done in a anodized blue and a red?

if so how much extra would that be?

I looked into anodizing when I was making some car parts for another forum and unless I'm doing batches of 50+ components it isn't cost effective.

You may have some luck if you can find a local anodizing company to put them in with a batch of other components at the same time but its not something that I can do personally, sorry.

Wow, what an amazing response.. this is great!

So the $25 would be for the aluminum ones ? any comments on how durable those would be vs. a standard controller ? Would the concern be for denting or ?

Also, sorry for being such a noob, but what's involved with swapping those for my original 8 way leaf joysticks I have in my cab at the moment?

I'm pretty much on board for 4, how many would would it take to change the price (NOT that I'm complaining at ALL, just curious)

Thanks again.. god I love this forum.

Thanks. The picture doesnt do them justice really, my pictures seem to go a bit funny when I post them on here.

Right click and choose 'view image' (in firefox) and it will show the pic not funny.

Left to right: Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Original Happ

Oh, and also - looking at the pic, it looks like alum is on the left with SS in the middle.  Am I wrong?

Your image is too large so it's being shrunk and messed up.
A 640x480 image is what you want..I've found anyway.

I've got some groovygamegear chrome ball-tops if nothing else pans out for you. ;)

Hi Franco,

Is it possible for you to manufacture a metal replacement for the plastic sleeve that fits on the shaft of a T-Stik and Happ Super joystick just below the bat handle?

The Happ Super sleeves are normally black and the ones fitted to the T-Stiks are normally chrome painted plastic. However, apart from that, I'm pretty sure the sleeves are interchangeable. That's not surprising as both joysticks are manufactured by IL.

I'd prefer the sleeves on my T-Stiks to be made of proper metal as painted plastic feels a bit cheap to me, and the paint will probably wear off over time.

Sorry for the late reply, ive been away most of the weekend.

Thank you for the picture help. Whats an easy way to shrink a photo to 640x480? (i dont have photoshop btw)

Yeah $25 would be for either SS or ally. I dont know what joys you have so I cant really tell you how to swap them over, im sure if you have a look at them you should be figure it out. I cant make loads and loads as I dont have the material to make say 50 or whatever. Im going to stuggle to find enough to make 8 or so to be honest.

Yeah you are right, messed that up didn't I! ha

Yeah no probs fella, Ive got some t-sticks myself so I can get the dimensions from them. They should be a fairly quick job so ill try and get them done this week, just depends when I can fit them on the machine. As for price, say $10 a pair?

Hi, $10 a pair sounds fine.

I'd like four of them please. I'm in the UK and last time I checked the exchange rate was about £1 = $2 so that would be about £10 in total. Does that sound OK? Also, do you take Paypal?

Thanks.

Managed to squeeze them on tonight, couple of QC pics for ya  :P

The two on the left are the original plastic ones, the two on the right are the stainless replacements (ive done four for you but there are two in the pic.)

Left is the stainless, the right is the original plastic, just so you know they fit.

If your happy with them send me your address and ill get them posted to you. I have to admit I made a couple of replacements for my own at the same time.  :)

Just remembered about these they would be cheaper than I can make them.

Just thought I would give an honest heads up. They got a good review from retroblast too.
