Golden Tee Backspin Button
« on: October 16, 2007, 08:30:46 am »
Are there any versions of Golden Tee for Mame that have a backspin button?

Not yet.  I believe that the backspin button was introduced in the GT Fore series, which is not yet supported in MAME.

Yep.  Golden Tee Fore won't be out until Incredible Technologies isn't making money from the series anymore.  The general rule is 5 years after release, but ... since the last release on the itech32 platform was 2006, and all of hte games could most likely be run on the same driver....    I'd estimate 3-4 years.  Maybe earlier if we're lucky, but... I doubt it.

GT Live came out in '05 so I doubt that they're making any money on the Fore series games still.  Since the Fore series came out in 2000, it doesn't seem to me that these would be that hard to emulate.  Then again, I'm not a MAMEDev. ;)

First, there is no "5 year rule", but it works as rough estimate.

Second, a bigger "rule" mame now follows is "no releases of any game on a given hardware until after that same hardware is stopped being sold even if it's not the same game."  And
... since the last release on the itech32 platform was 2006, and all of hte games could most likely be run on the same driver....

So no new GT until after that hardware isn't sold (note that the word isn't "released").  And note this "rule" does NOT say "as soon as it's stopped", it just mentioned that some time after, maybe 5 years, maybe 10.  This is where the 5 years estimate comes into "effect".

Third, there is the strongest rule: "the more mameDev is bugged about adding game XYZ, the longer it will take to add game XYZ."  So don't start trying to convince anyone it should be added. ;)
